A forked lightening bolt which was part of the storm early Tuesday morning caused a fire in La Florida, La Orotava.
According to the emergency services (Cecoes) 1-1-2, the lightening bot fell about 05.30 in the early hours of the morning in an area know as Choza del Topo. A fire worker in a fire tower in Aguamansa spotted the fire and gave warning.
The spot was difficult to reach but six Cecopin fire workers and a high mobility tactical vehicle (Vamtac) with a 900 l Litre water tank and a URO with a capacity of 4.500 litres managed to put out the fire. They were assisted by civil guards and La Orotava local police officers.
The flames burnt about 2000 square metres of vegetation, pine needles and wood. This is now under control state sources from the Tenerife government.
