HULL FC are to travel to Tenerife in the new year for their first warm-weather training camp in four seasons.

It will form part of a busy pre-season for Hull as they prepare for the 2012 campaign.

In recent seasons the Black and Whites have opted against going abroad.

Former coach Richard Agar was a big fan of using the indoor facilities at the Vale Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort in Cardiff.

However, new director of rugby Shaun McRae has confirmed a week in Tenerife has been planned for early January.

And he says given the new coaching set-up and seven new additions to the playing squad, it will be an important trip.

"We are going to Tenerife in early January for a week," McRae told the Mail.

"The week away is always tough but with a lot of new faces it will be an important trip in terms of the players getting to know each other better. When we come back we have Hull KR on the 22nd and Lee Radford's testimonial game against Bradford on the 29th.

"Straight after that we get into Super League because it looks like the competition is going to be brought forward a week.

"I personally think it is too early to be starting the competition, but you play when you're told."

Hull made a poor start to the campaign last season.

They were short following Shaun Berrigan's late release on Boxing Day, and then the early-season dismissal of Jordan Tansey for disciplinary reasons.

And McRae says FC cannot afford a repeat of that situation next year.

"It is important we start the new season well," he said. "Hull didn't start very well last year and what we are looking for next season is a little more consistency."
