I have WINZIP on my PC, which I rarely use to create zip files, but like most it gets used to open the odd email attachment.

I use v10, but I think WINZIP is up tov.15, with 16 looming. What I am fed up with is the rate at which Winzip provide some, apparently, all new, all singing version - for which they are seeking yet more money.

Is anyone using another program to create zip files and open zipped files? I'm not necessarily looking for free, but a program that is good and reliable.

There are several around

7-Zip, Winrar, Winarchiver, QuickPar

Have used them all recently and they are all much of a sameness in use although I normally opt for WinRar or WinArchiver

The latest versions of Windows also have zip file handling built in as standard

Will these alternatives work with programmes that specifically ask for WinZip, ie Sax'n'Dotty

Hi slogedad, it's my understanding that Sax'n'Dotty will 'open' a zip file containing the MP3 and Cdg pair. I believe it doesn’t use actually use Winzip but contains the unzip function within it own software, but I could be wrong. It’s up to you what zip program you use to create the MP3- Cgd pair. Within reason, any zip / unzip program will work with any Zip file.
