I've just had the best week in Tenerife ever!

The people, the places, the weather and the late night cruising around Tenerife all made this my best visit to Tenerife in over 10 years coming to the island.

My Ryanair flight to Tenerife took of from Bournemouth on time. We did a left turnout from BOH to fly over Sandbanks , and then on into Poolebay, we then climbed to reach our cruising altitude of 36,000 feet by 'Ortac' near Jersey - where the 'seat-belt' sign turned off . Out with the laptop for some entertainment or a dash to the jons quick for those in need. Onwards - a slight right and long (boring for the pilots) straight line route to Santiago on the northern tip of Spain. Slight left, then down to the southern edge of Portugal - then slight right with a direct heading to Canaries airspace . Once visible with mount Teide, we begin the descent into TFS from the 'normal' direction (runway 08).
It's funny when newbies to Tenerife look out the windows on the right and see La Gomera and say ' there is Tenerife' .

By the time my phone had sprung into life with a text message from my driver that he was on his way to pick me up, I was already on the Bus to los Cristianos.

I was staying at one of Doreen's Paloma Beach apartments again - you know the ones, 50 inch TV, DVD, iPod dock for you iPhone 4 (and in my apartment an TV/DVD in the bedroom) and free use of the safety deposit box and a complementary welcome pack.

A Fully equipped kitchen with hob oven, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, Tassimo coffee maker, iron etc etc...........

Bars and Restaurants within a short walk and a 100 yards from Iceland supermarket.

DJ Dangerous took me up to pick up my set of wheels for the holiday where I meet his cousin Pamela too.

The first night I was at Paloma Beach, there was an amazing storm south of the island - I managed to capture some lightening using a 1 minute shutter speed

On Tuesday night I made it to Ecky's birthday/Tenerife forum party at O'Jangles - always a good night to be had. A little daunting wondering in on a group of people you think you don't know - but you soon recognise familiar faces such as Young Golfer, CIM and KBGKAZ who welcome you. Again , nice to meet new members such as Maxine and Ecky, Sunspot etc. No alcohol was had by me as I was off on a late night cruise in the car.


I made it down to Playa Las Vistas and Del Duque a few times and caught the Hoopoe on camera too walking back from the beach ( I was walking back from the beach - not the Hoopoe.)

The last Saturday I was in Tenerife, DJD, Pamela and myself walked over from Los Cristianos to Palm Mar and then on to get the return bus 'home' .

I made it to my old favourite beach at Diego Hernández Beach, La Caleta just once - the storms have once again removed most of the sand meaning when the tide was in there is little sandy beach to be had. The yacht washed up on the shore (15 seconds in on below video) is testament to the strength of the sea!

Pity, this used to be a great beach. If you arrived early enough, you had it all to yourself. I used to love swimming out to the Freebird yachts, and swimming with the fish - some as big as 10 inches. It was also the beach where I VERY nearly drowned, where I squashed my beautiful face against the floor of the beach by a strong wave, and where I put my shoulder out by another strong wave - I never learn lol. I even found some sunken treasure there - some form of tiara, but I could never retrieve it as my free diving was not that good, and tide changes and currents always scuppered successive chances at finding it again year on year. It's location will be my secret - duh, just told you where it is!!! Google was not my friend in telling me what it might have been.

It was always a friendly beach in terms of people meet - often, Spanish, German, French would converse in English together, yet I was normally the only English person there. People would look out for each other - a welcome hello or good bye was to be had. The local surfers would also help rescue the odd swimmer in difficulty too - and would then confess to being caught out by the power of sea too.

No trained life guards, no lookie lookie men, or massage women, beach sellers, or loud Brits - just a place to chill!

At weekends, the beach takes on a more family friendly feel. Often, 3 or even 4 generations of the same Canarian family could be seen enjoying time together - an understanding of how Canarians value both young and old in their family structure..................

Its good you had a great time staying in a very nice extreamly well equipped touristic apartment it goes to show you dont need to stay in a residential one find well equipped apartments and hurry up with story! David
