Can anyone help me find a copy of AULA 1 for students? This is a textbook required for a course in Spanish and I am finding it difficult to get a hold of one here in the U.K.
I know a few bookshops in the north are supposed to supply it, however I would have liked to get it and have a look at it before I arrive as it will only be a few days before the course starts.
If anyone knows of a bookshop that definately has it or if anyone has a second hand one, can they pm me with the details please.

Many thanks

Not in Puerto but Canary Books in Santa Cruz would probably have it.

Have you looked on Amazon

It is available on Amazon see here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aula-Internacional-1-Students-Book/sim/8484432289/2) I regularly have books posted here and they usually take about a week.

thanks, yes I have checked on Amazon, but it appears the one I have to get is the one with the green cover and Amazon don't have that. They only suggest a supplier.(one in Australia)
The bookshops in the uk have the one with the oranges on the front cover, but I have been sent a picture from the tutor of the one I have to get and that is the one with the green cover. No-one is able to tell me if the one on Amazon is just an updated version of the green one.
I can't contact the tutor until the beginning of November. I may just have to wait until then to see what she says, but thanks for the info.

Hi Currie girl....how are you doing?

I remember we met at the tennis club and had lunch with Megaloo.

The Spanish Amazon has one with a green cover listed but they are temporarily out of stock.

Do you have the ISBN of the one you want?

This one is printed on Nov. 8, 2006..... ISBN 13 - 978 - 8484432548.

1688

As it´s nearly November I guess you´ll have to find one when you get here. The teacher should know where to buy it.

Good luck.

Hi Canarybird, yes that was a nice lunch at the tennis club, hope to do it again when we arrive in January if that's ok with you and Megaloo.

As far as the book is concerned, I am making progress. A very nice lady in a bookshop in Edinburgh is helping me. She has located the Green book but has said it could take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive. I have looked at the Orange book which I am not sure if this is just a newer edition or not, so I am going to call the teacher on the 9th November and confirm it.

I had hoped some of the instructions in the book would be in English, but the Orange one is all Spanish, not sure about the Green one.

Seems as though you would need to know Spanish before you read the book. Sort of defeating the purpose of going to lessons for beginners. Ha ha!!

I am glad to see you are back on the Forum, I have missed your daily updates on the weather.

Hope you are well, we are looking forward to our 3 months in the sun (hopefully)

Thanks for the information.

Where are you going to study in Puerto de la Cruz? I am doing 20 hours a week at Don Quijote for 5 weeks from 12th December.
I have found that teachers are often working from an earlier (original) version of a textbook and students have to buy a later edition. These bookshops might be able to tell you if this is the case with Aula.

Good luck

Hi Megaloo,

Yes Don Quijote is opposite the lagoon just beside the Chinese restaurant. I went there for a month last Xmas and liked it [and PDLC] enough to go back this Xmas.

A single enrolment fee of €65 + €180 pw [2011] or €190 pw [2012] for 20 hours per week plus 5 “culture” lectures. Classes: 9:00-10:50 and 11:10 to 1:00 PM each weekday. 1 hour talks (in Spanish) on Spanish food, history, art, etc at 1:00 PM.

http://www.donquijote.org/standard/2011/pricelist/english.pdf

http://www.donquijote.org/standard/2012/pricelist/english.pdf

They are open all weekdays over Xmas and the New Year except public holidays. They have an over-50’s course during the first 2 weeks of January, running alongside the “normal ” courses.

I am interested in where Curriegirl is studying.

Hi, we are hoping to get 2 places on the course run by the University of La Laguna, but I am yet to confirm this with the tutor as we cannot enrol until we get there,
Don Quijote???? where is that? This may be an option if we don't get on the other course. We have booked our flights around the course so lets hope we get places. Do you know if they run course Jan/Feb/ Mar?? at Don Quijote?

Hi Curriegirl....

The Don Quijote school is right in downtown Puerto de la Cruz, on the seafront across from the Lido where the old Hostal Belgica was located.

Here´s a LINK, (http://www.dq-tenerife.com/) if you haven´t already found it.

I haven´t been inside the school but have seen photos. It certainly has a very central location.

regards,
Canarybird

Curriegirl,
As well as looking at their websites, I would telephone the companies I sent you and ask them if they know the difference between the green and orange versions.
Don Quijote (www.donquijote.org) is one of the many companies that run language schools in many countries. They run classes all the year round. That nice Canarybird has given you the location, Avenida Colon.
There are other language schools in PDLC.

There is at least one other language schools in La Laguna. I was thinking of going there for a short course last year but went to Puerto de la Cruz instead. Try:
http://www.orbislingua.com/ebaba173.htm
and:
http://www.cactuslanguage.com/en/book/course.php?course_id=4174

Let me know if you want any more info.
Do you have a link that I can look at it for your university course (just for information)?
Have you arranged accomodation yet?
All the best

thanks for that, I will call the bookshops on Monday.
The link I have for the course we hope to attend is www.iehcan.com
We don't need accomodation when we are there as we have our apartment.
The links you provided are very interesting, I have kept a note of them
Thanks Brentfordian

Thanks Canarybird, my PC is giving me real problems at he moment. Running so slow.
I also can't get the thanks button to work on the forum.
