When we first arrived here 3 and a hlaf years ago, I placed my daughter at 2 different Spanish Schools over a 1 year period, and it did not work out at all! My daughter had no previous knowledge of Spanish and found it very difficult to integrate, and she also had a mild learning difficulty as well. After 1 year I decided to remove her from the Spanish System as her self-esteem had become so bad, and she had not learned very much, apart from conversational Spanish. I then placed her at Sandbrook Education Centre, and she has been there for the duration. Over the past year and a half the staff at Sandbrook have transformed my daughter, from having lack of education and Spanish ability, to being a confident and thriving young woman. She has now been placed at Los Cristianos High School, in a special class for youths who are not completely fluent in reading and writing in Spanish, and need extra support with learning.

The service and quailty of education provided by Sandbrook has been outstanding. I cannot reccommend them enough for their quality of care and attention of each individual child. My daughter would never have had the confidence or education to be placed again, back into the Spanish System successfully had it not been for them.

I hope that other parents might find this post helpful.

Thankyou

The centre has been working in Tejina since March but has been around much longer. I joined as their Teacher in March 2010 and I create individualised learning plans for children, to prepare them to rejoin mainstream education systems with more self confidence and an ability to take the best advantage of their chosen school. Sometimes we have been a holding centre for a pupil whilst a space becomes available at a school of choice, but many of the pupils I have worked with have had difficulty with the situation they were in and have needed specialised help to regain control of their learning. By careful anaylsis of their present achievement, an individualised programme has been devised for each child within a topic based approach, to develop their skills further.
The group I am currently working with is 10 strong and the youngest child is 4, the oldest 11. All the children are working to guidelines underpinned by the National Curriculum of the UK, and the parents receive regular updates and reports about the actual progress being made by their child. They are also a multinational group, with children currently from Finland, Spain, Slovakia, & Slovenia as well as GB, but all teaching is in English. However we have been learning some Spanish every day, as well studying Lizards and Birds and The Aztecs this term. With such a small group and a Teaching Assistant the children have a great deal of support to guide them through their own learning journey.
More details of my experience and expertise can be found on the Witzend (http://www.witzend-tenerife.biz/) webpage.
