I hope you had a good Halloween and had more treats than tricks.

Sorry I´m not able to post every day. I´m still working on a small laptop and fighting with Windows 7 after being quite happy with Windows XP!

Here is some weather news for today, November 1st.

It´s been a beautiful morning here in Puerto de la Cruz so far. Although there are a few clouds around, the sun is out and the air temperature after 12:30 pm is 24°. The forecast is for sun with a little cloud and temperatures ranging from 17° to 23°C.

Thursday we can expect some rain. There is an orange alert for the north of Tenerife for high coastal waves Thursday.
The alert extends over 24 hours and includes most of the other islands. Here´s the chart:

Yesterday a good time was had by the folks who attended a Halloween pub lunch in Puerto de la Cruz.
Along with fish & chips, shepherd´s pie and bread pudding there was plenty of wine, lighted pumpkins and spiders on the tables.

Well it was a beautiful day yesterday (Tuesday) and we had a great sunset as well.

I went out to lunch again, this time to an Austrian restaurant in La Paz where I sat at an outside table and enjoyed the mild temperature and sunshine.

Today was another sunny day, where I saw the shade temperature around midday was 24.6ºC

The weatherman is still saying we could have some showers tomorrow (Thursday) and the alert is still on for heavy coastal waters, although it´s no longer an orange alert, but down to yellow for the north of Tenerife and other islands.

Good Morning!

It´s now Friday, November 4th and the sun is shining here in Puerto de la Cruz.

The current air temperature outside on my shady windowsill is 22.5º, humidity is 69%.

We did have some more rain yesterday late afternoon and night as well as this morning.

But nothing like the rain on the Spanish peninsula where in some areas there was as much as 200 liters per sq. meter.

The forecast is for sun and cloud and temperatures from 17º to 23ºC. The yellow alert for rough coastal waves is still in effect and will be for tomorrow, Saturday. Winds in Pto. Cruz are light, from 0 to 15 km/h, from north and northwest.
No rain in sight for the weekend with a 35% possibility of a shower on Monday.

It´s November 11th and the time is 11:45 am.

Good Morning!

There´s a light dusting of snow on Teide this morning, very light and it will probably be gone in a couple of hours.

It´s just starting to rain but the temperature is 22.8º so it´s warm.

Rain is predicted for this afternoon and tomorrow.More later. Must run off to Pilates now.

It´s still Nov. 11th, now the evening, after we´ve had some sprinklings of rain today. Temperature 21º at 9:15 pm.

Winds are coming from the west bring clouds moving west to east to the archipelago.

Saturday, along with the other western islands, we should have some rain.

Hi Clifford...
Yes the very nice garden restaurant (closed on Sunday though) is called Tito´s Bodeguita. It´s located in an old hermitage in the San Nicolas area of Pto. Cruz , where there is also indoor dining if it´s raining and it´s open right through from 12:30 noon to 11 pm. Here´s the link to Tito´s website. (http://www.titosbodeguita.com/) There´s a map on their site. Tito and his sister speak English and German as well as Spanish.

You can usually buy Pimientos de Padron in supermarkets or the main city market, but do be careful that they are clearly marked as such, and you are not buying the tiny green HOT peppers, which can look similar.

You can have Pimientos de Padron in many other places, such as the typical Canary Restaurant San Diego (http://www.restaurantesandiego.es/index.php) in the area called El Rincon, on the way down to Bollulo beach. Hope you find some of these as they are a great starter for a meal.

We are going with a group to Monestario for a day trip. Could you recommend a nice restaurant there, also i am sure a lot of people on this forum would like to met you, so next time there is a forum met up i would like you to come and you can stay in my house for the night.Hope you take up the offer

Hi Anto......Do you mean you´re going to the Monasterio Restaurant (http://www.mesonelmonasterio.es/?lang=en) complex in La Montañeta for a day trip?
If so, there are several restaurants all belonging to the site and you can look at them and choose the area where you prefer to sit.

There is the Mirador, which is at the top of the hill, overlooking Puerto, and the outdoor patio restaurant, halfway up the hill, where you are visited by roosters and chickens as well as a cat or two wandering under your table.

The whole area is lovely and very photogenic. But perhaps you were referring to some other place?

Thank you for the offer to stay overnight and meet other forum members at a group gathering. I know I´d enjoy it, and perhaps I will do so one day, but at present it´s not possible to be away for long hours as I´m caring for a family member who is not well.

Let me know if you need more advice for your day trip.

Was it really as bad today as it looked on the webcams in the North. It looked like rain and very low cloud / misty.

Not at all too bad Colin. Yes we had rain on and off ......mostly on..... and heavy dark clouds but it was warm at over 20º and you could walk around in just a light shirt and maybe a light jacket as long as you had an umbrella. We desperately need rain here and Tenerife is never gloomy with so many beautiful flowers everywhere and the warm temperature. Think tropical and palm trees. :)

Well we´ve been getting the rain the past couple of days. This morning it´s raining heavily at 07:30 am.

I haven´t seen Teide yet so don´t know if there is snow, but it´s not cold here, just very wet.

Sunshine and some cloud predicted for the rest of the day and tomorrow with low temps of 14º or 15º and highs of 20º with little or no wind.

Good Morning and Happy First Advent! (Now 4 Sundays before Christmas.)

It´s a lovely clear morning and the sun is out.

Here´s the current view over Puerto de la Cruz and the Orotava Valley from the Bodegas Monje webcam in El Sauzal:

The air temperature of the moment on my outdoor windowsill thermometer is registering 17ºC and the outlook according to the Aemet government forecast is for sunshine today in Puerto with temperatures from 14º to 20ºC.

Of course it´s always warmer than 20º in the sun, but the shade can be cool so a cardigan is handy to have if you´re going out walking.

I´m going to look for my Advent wreath and candles so I can put it out today and light one candle this evening.
I know it´s hidden somewhere in my storage room, probably under a pile of old Christmas wrapping and ribbons.

Good Morning!

It´s a chilly morning here in Puerto de la Cruz but the Aemet weather forcast is for calima today.
That means it´s going to warm up as we have very light winds from the east.

Temperature at 8:00 am on my outdoor windowsill is currently 14.5ºC but as you can see from the Bodegas Monje webcam over the Orotava Valley the sky is clear and cloudless.

The UV index has gone down to just 3 these days. Remember when it was up to 11 during the summer?

Clear skies and sunshine predicted for the next couple of days with possible clouds coming up for the weekend.

High today for Santa Cruz is expected to be 23º.
Lows for Puerto de la Cruz during the night could go down to 13ºC.

With calima the temperatures will go up today.

Good Morning!

We´ve been having two perfect sunny clear days with calima and it looks like the calima will continue again today, and be even more pronounced. The Bodegas Monje early morning webcam shows a thick curtain of cloud and dust blocking off the view of the valley.

The forecast for Puerto de la Cruz is for more sunshine and east winds which could be fairly strong over the whole island.

Temperature on my outside windowsill at 8:00 am is a chilly 16.3ºC and the humidity is a dry 41%.
The view out my window shows a misty, pink view of Las Cañadas in the distance.

Good Morning!

It was a bright and sunny but windy day yesterday and the air was chilly downtown when in the shade.
Forecast for today is for sun with a little cloud but no wind mentioned.

Here´s some photos I took down in the town yesterday. The town was packed full of tourists and there was hardly an empty seat at the cafes anywhere near Plaza del Charco. Still some folks in bathing suits down at San Telmo but the red flag was out.

Good Morning!

We´ve been having a heavy dose of calima since yesterday and although today looks a little clearer, there is still quite a haze over by Teide. The air is warm and dry....my hygrometer registers 27% which is very low. Temperature at 11:00 am is around 23ºC...as my weather station had a bit of sun on it this morning, that would account for it reading 27ºC.

The prediction for Puerto de la Cruz for the weekend is for more sunshine and east winds, which usually bring warm air and calima dust. Some high cloud on Saturday and temperatures ranging from 13ºC to 23ºC.

I went on a coach trip shopping yesterday down to Las Chafiras with a group of English residents and visitors from Puerto de la Cruz. Although the temperature was perfect, the day was misty and dull with the horizon hardly definable where it met the sea.

I almost had a fit when the bus started moving as we set off. I haven´t been on a coach ride for so long that I hadn´t seen that the drivers now sit down in a well so low that you don´t see them. I though the driver was still standing outside and that we had a runaway bus! My seat view:

I like to see wind farms, and although some feel they destroy the landscape, I get a positive feeling watching them creating energy from the wind.

Monday, December 26, 2011. Puerto de la Cruz.

Good Morning and Happy Boxing Day!

I hope everyone has been having a good Christmas.
We certainly have been having lovely springlike weather with east winds that are bringing us warmth and sunshine.

Shade temperature outside on my windowsill at 11:10 am is 21.6ºC and the humidity is a drier than normal 46%.

I bought an Iceland stuffed turkey breast this year as I didn´t feel up to cooking a whole bird and I was really surprised at how well it turned out! I might just do this again sometime.
