A low-cost airline is investing more than £70m in Leeds Bradford Airport, it has been announced.

Michael O'Leary, the boss of Ryanair, revealed his company will base a third aircraft at the Yeadon airport to allow it to add six new routes to Crete, Corfu, Dinard in France, Kos, Milan and Tenerife.

The move will also secure about 60 new jobs to the site and bring in an additional one million passengers a year.

Tony Hallwood, from the airport, said: "We are proud that the introduction of six new destinations flying locally and conveniently from Yorkshire's gateway airport will bring new jobs and investment in 2012.

"Today's announcement will also help in attracting an increasing number of inbound visitors to explore Yorkshire."

:wow:I flew out with Jet 2 last Tuesday, on obtaining my usual magazines, daily papers etc/, I asked for a Plastic carrier to keep them in the cost for it was 10p but that would not have been the problem, I was asked if I was flying with Ryanair and was warned if I was they would count the carrier as a second bag a charge me accordingly! I stick with Jet2 thanks:)

As yet no flights show for late March from Birmingham to Tenerife.
It looks as though Leeds have picked up these flights.

Word within the industry is that Ryanair have dropped their Doncaster flights for next year too, so looks like the TFS flight has been moved up the M1 to Leeds!

Unfortuntely CWL management seem to be doing everything they can to put airlines off from using the airport, the charges they have been offering are high in comparison to other airports. However the main problem for Cardiff is Bristol sitting just over the water, the catchment area simply isn't strong enough in the present economic climate to support the 2 airports, Ryanair won't open up Cardiff flights as it would dilute their Bristol base.
