Just wanted to point out that when booking flights with a 3rd party and the airline goes bust you are not covered under section 75 of the credit card act.
Where customers use a credit card to buy airline or other travel tickets from a travel agent, they cannot normally claim against the travel agent if the airline delays or cancels the flight. This is because the travel agent contracted to supply the ticket, not the flight. So the customer would not have a claim under section 75 either. So beware! David

Order your flights directly from the airline on the web - using Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights - and you're golden.

Sorry to be a killjoy here fixer but you can claim under section 75 as your contract is with the Credit Card company not the Travel agency, why do they say if your flight is Cancelled claim against the Credit Card company and not the Travel agency ? and if they are Atol/Abta registered your money is safe anyway although it takes a little longer to reclaim your money

If the payment on your credit card is payable to the travel agent, who then in turn pay the airline, you are not covered by section 75 as then your contract is deemed to be with the agent (3rd Party).
If the travel agent is as you say, Atol/Abta then you would be OK as then your claim would be made against them.
Clear as mud.:)

yes indeed the travel company may return your money Last week on the morning program Rip Off Britian a group off people booked flights through a travel agent using a credit card the airline went bust the credit card company refused to return there money as the contract was not with the airline but the travel agent who also refused to return there money. The programe brought on a expert to explain section 75 and also said they were not due there money back from there credit card company i always research before posting so please read section 75! david

Read this There can be problems if the card is accepted by a different business from the one that provided the goods and services. We see this situation most frequently in connection with timeshare and holiday club membership, where it is not unusual for the timeshare or holiday club company to use the credit card facilities of another business. The business accepting the payment may simply be acting as agent for the supplier, in which case section 75 will not apply. In order for section 75 to apply, the business that accepts the payment and the supplier have to be "associates", as defined in the Consumer Credit Act.

Where customers use a credit card to buy airline or other travel tickets from a travel agent, they cannot normally claim against the travel agent if the airline delays or cancels the flight. This is because the travel agent contracted to supply the ticket, not the flight. So the customer would not have a claim under section 75 either.

However, things are different if customers use a credit card to buy the travel agent’s own "package" of travel arrangements. In such instances the agent is the supplier of the holiday package. This situation is illustrated in case study 31/6.
