A friend on the island has given me there mobile number so we can meet up for a drink , it's a 9 digit number starting with 689 , so as i'm using my uk mobile switched to spanish network when i arrive , what i want to know is there a prefix to be added to my friends mobile number or do i just dial that number .

Thanks .

Normally if you are ringing from a UK number you have to put 0034 first then the 9 digit number

Ok i know that's the case for landline calls , so are you saying that's the same for UK mobiles abroad .

Suck it and see.

Alternatively, look up 0844Calls (Spanish version of) and the like if you're going to be doing a lot of that sort of thing. Cheaper.

It was an unhelpful reply to a question that could have been answered in seconds by simply Googling your question.

"To call someone with a UK mobile number who is abroad, simply call their mobile number as normal (without any international prefix) – we will automatically route your call abroad."

I,ve allready done a Gllgle search and come up with nothing

If you read my question you;ll see that it's a Spanish mobile i'm going to call and not a UK mobile

Are they all as friendly as you on here ? .

Then the usual way of dialling international numbers (as with landlines) apply: country code + prefix + number.

As I said: unless you get it cheap, consider calling locally instead.

Before using your mobile here for calling 'locally' be sure to check with your provider and find out how much it will cost. It might be a cheaper option to go to a payphone and call from there. When calling from a UK mobile, you use +34 before the number. It's 0034 if you're ringing from a landline.

Hope this helps

Using a specialist Spanish cheap dial-through number to make it the cost of a national call or not much more.

It can be confusing if you're not used to it...so..

If you're calling from a UK mobile to Spain dial +34 then the full mobile 9 digit number.

If you're dialling a land line from a UK mobile dial +34 and the whole number as well, either starting with 922 or now 822 as well, as they have run out of 922 numbers for the moment.

As I'm sure you're aware +34 is the same as 0034 so you can dial either just as it is in the UK it can be +44 or 0044.

If you're dialling from Spain back to Spain via a UK mobile, just as a previous poster has said, be ready for a hike in costs...and also you have to have had your phone authorised to call from abroad.

Sorry for the simple explanation, but thought it would be helpful.

Thanks for your reply's

I all ready use a 0844 service to call Tenerife from the Uk , 1p per minute and 5p per minute for mobiles , but to call a Spanish mobile it's 8p per minute , i've looked on the Web and the charges range from 5p to 14p per minute for calling Spanish mobiles , with Vodafone UK i get charged 75p connection and use my inclusive minutes at no charge , the cheaper option i think .

But this was not my original question i just wanted to know the prefix to add to the mobile number which seems to have been answered very well by s1monsg , Thanks .

Won't those deplete rather quickly and/or do they count for non-UK calls?

It's called Vodafone Passport , you're charged a connection fee depending which country your visiting , Spain is 75p ,then i use my 500mins a month free calls at no extra cost , my other 2 daughters have pc's so we use Skype through free Wi-Fi at no cost at all .
