The way the report is written puts Tenerife into a good light (and free publicity) lets hope it stays like that and any stories of any small incidents do not get blown out of proportion. Let“s hope also they do not return and set up camp on the outskirts of Los Cristianos.

When i lived in Palm Mar there were hundreds of them there, they own loads of apartments there and even some of the houses in the expensive Club de Mar.

When i rented in there they used to all come to the pool from the other apartments, in fairness whilst being a bit noisy they never really caused any trouble.

Explains the enormous amount of very scantily clad females in the most garish outfits parading around, and young girls from about 3 dressed like little hookers... Yep, just the sort of publicity Tenerife needs!! ???

Just let them have a good time. They are probably spending loads of money in the bars. It is Christmas. Just get on with your own lives. Merry Christmas xx

In the childrens play areas negotiated the price 4 euros each & then pushed 7 or 8 through each time.

The internet at Camping Naughty will have gone into melt down today if thats true? :)

An exceptionally large group of people on holiday and out to enjoy themselves can easily go over-the top, not necessarily those mentioned.
Not nice if others feel uncomfortable around them and if people's livelihoods are being ruined but within the group there will be decent members so maybe a bit of balance here please? Good points as well as...less desirable. It is the season of Goodwill.:respect:

Imagine being on a flight over with that lot! Ah, such lovely people.....not! Everywhere they move in UK, they cause problems, the local crime rate goes up massively - and the Police bottle it! Don't want to get involved, they're too busy after easy arrests to falsify their clean-up records.

I have been involved with several travelling families from the West Coast of Scotland, helping them with any problems that they have had with schooling for their children, medical needs and yes, any dealing with harassment from communities that they temporarily live among. I have always found them to be courteous and thankful for any help given to them.
Just like any families you will find a few black sheep.

For "few black sheep" read "few white sheep" - ask the majority of people in the real world and their experience of having 'travellers' move near them has been a nightmare, very costly (to get them moved on) and serious social repercussions for those that actually pay taxes to have a decent lifestyle. One group moved into a site in Hertfordshire, near some friends, caused chaos, ripped people off (targetting old people incidentally - nice!), nicked cars, burgled houses and shoplifted anywhere and anywhere they could find - now been moved on to, no-doubt, do exactly the same somewhere else. 90% of them are a nightmare/lowlife.

There are over 300,000 traveling people living in the UK, these encompass many groups including:- fairground families, English Gypsies, circus families, Romany Gypsies(which asylum seekers are grouped with), Welsh travellers, Scottish travellers, how many cases of murderers, bank robbers, child offenders can you tell us about involving these groups, but among us "normal" folk the list could be quite long, if you want to look at the crime figures in Hertfordshire involving travellers you will find it hard to find any of those crimes.
Before you say I know nothing about the "real world" I did live and work in Barnet, St Albans and Potters Bar for many years.

A friend of mine who has just returned from Tenerife was sat having a pint and minding his own business in the Full Monty pub on the patch, when 4 travellers came up to him and told him to f### off as they wanted this table now.Naturally he told them to sod off, when over 20 more arrived including women and children,he was physically picked up and thrown out of the bar with the women and children shouting extreme obscenities at him.
There are good and bad in all societies, but I can't find any good in any of these people.

Maybe its because you are not looking for the good among the Gypsy people, there are some today serving in the British Armed Forces and during the two world wars many of them died fighting against a country (Germany) who were trying to invade Britain, one of them won the "Victoria Cross" for gallantry, plus there were many others who deservedly were decorated for their bravery.

I dont think we should judge them all as bad people when we don't know that much about them, apart from what is printed by the gutter press.

If you wants a few of our Scottish travelling families ( Tinks to us ) in Tenerife please apply to the Scottish Parliment I am sure we can work something out. If you want to see some of these "lovely people with wonderful family values" come to Angus and see the trail of destruction they leave behind at their camps. But in fairness they are very "green" they fertilise the ground at their camps with " natural products" and recycle locally obtained scrap iron etc.

Yes Shaun, there are many travellers both in vans and residences (rather posh ones!) in our village. We have had some rough groups of visitors in the past, often in the summer and for weddings and funerals and a bit of trouble in the local pub but on the whole those who are here 'permanently' look after their own patch, i.e. our village, and are generally friendly. The apartment below us in Tenerife is owned by elderly travellers, is rarely used but is sometimes occupied by sons or daughters and their families. I can only say that whereas the older couple on their short annual visit have drunken fights, the younger ones somehow keep the children quiet, are very respectful to the complex and the children are in spotlessly clean clothes and well cared-for. Different groups within the travelling communities have different moralities as do those of us who are not.

The majority of Travellers do still travel from one area to another, here in the West Coast of Scotland historically they were, and in some cases still do follow the seasonal work available to them, this was mainly agricultural work.

The Travellers that were reported about early on in this thread, were show people, originally from travelling fairs, but today they have become so called TV celebrities, a far cry from their original roots.

My last experience of these "travelling scum" was back in 2009 at one of the above ground gas pipeline installations I used to look after when working for National Grid in the UK.
For those that know the area it was Opposite the Lexus garage at the roundabout on the M53 at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire.
There was an 100yd access track to the compound which had a locked gate which these scum 'hadn't broken' according to the leading scum person.
There was approx 8 caravans on the site with the usual assortment of un-taxed transit flatbeds and 'white vans' and Mercs and Audi's
(no Lexus much to the chagrin of the Lexus dealer!!)
After gentle persuasion didn't work, and the usual request for £2000 per caravan to move on from the leading scum person,we resorted to a court order to get them to move on,which took approximately two months to serve and execute if memory serves me right.
As usual on the day of eviction half the scum had already left and the remaining scum took 4-6hrs to vacate the site.
We brought our contract clean up teams in to clear an absolute pile of cut down trees (which they no doubt told the little old ladies they had visited would be disposed of responsibly) old cobbles, timbers, old tyres, old kitchen cupboards and work tops, tarmac, paving slabs, empty calor gas bottles (we counted 16, yes 16 of these) etc etc.
Many items had 'magically' appeared in the nearby Shropshire Union Canal, timbers, paving slabs and yet more empty calor gas bottles etc etc (Cleaned up at cost to the British Waterways Board)
The place stunk of urine and faeces (human and animal) which again cost for specialist environmental clean teams to clean up!!

It took two full weeks to clean the site properly.
Cost was £16000 to clear site,£3500 for specialist cleaning teams, nearly £3000 for Cheshire police attendance on the day and finally £5500 for a new 'scum proof' access gate.
On one of my visits to site (after eviction) a Ford transit flatbed drove onto sight and wanted to dump some 'fallen trees' on site,he and his mate were politely refused and they offered the four of us that were there £100 to allow them to dump the trees, unfortunately (for them) i had an ex-professional rugby league player who worked for our contractors who took an instant dislike (not enough money offered perhaps) to the pair of them and they hurriedly left.
So, all in all a TYPICAL encounter for me of travelling scum over 31 yrs at National Grid.
And people wonder why i have the views i do about these scum??

Check out the story in tomorrows Sun and you will read that there were thousands of them that landed at Tenerife Airport and there was a skirmish in Las Americas.
Then read the stories on the forum and you will read that there are millions of them and that they trashed every bar on Tenerife!;)

And if the Gypsies weren“t in Tenerife there would have been no police on the patch at 2 a.m New Years Eve??

I went to Scampies last week and there were some in there whilst i was eating, they looked normal, they acted normal, they went and washed their hands before they ate and believe it or not then even paid their bill and left a tip as they left.

I heard a rumour that a few had a massage on the beach and paid the Chinese women with fake 50 euro notes. Not sure if it's true, or if I should laugh or not. Probably wouldn't have liked it if any bar or shop etc had been scammed, but as they shouldn't be trading on the beach anyway......

How did you know they were Gypsies then? They looked normal & acted normal but? ha ha. Only joking.
Anyway, my view is that if large groups of people want to visit Tenerife then they are welcomed. If they cause trouble they will be dealt with by the police. Are gypsy types more likely to cause hassle? It is a tad small minded to label all the group as bad people that will not enjoy a normal holiday and spend good money in the bars etc. Some (according to reports) were out of order, so that tars the whole group with that image, which is wrong (and probably embarrasing to most of them).

Having said all that and slightly contradicting myself, I do not agree with their lifestyle at all and I would have paid good money to help smash up that travellers site in Essex a few months ago.

The one's that stay around the patch have been coming for years and years and apart from once, when it went off bad in Princess Di's and Craig ( rip ) from behind the bar got a hiding they have been good as gold.

I think people are intimidated by them due to their sheer numbers, and though the youngsters can be cheeky and a bit boisterous on the whole they are well behaved.

I've got to know a few of them over the years and they are respectful to you as long as you are respectful to them. They also guaranteed that I had a good holiday in January every year because of the amount of money they spent with me.

The one's I know here in blighty though......

There were some gypsies sitting round me on my flight back today, they were very helpful to the staff and less able passengers, a bit loud mabey but well behaved. I also saw a programme whilst back in UK. 'Drunken brits abroad'!!! Now that was embarrassing. In some Eatern European clubs they wont let Brits in ...period. so its not only the travelling community in the UK with a bad reputation, its all of us. And by what i saw in that programme and what i have witnessed working in bars around Las Americas, its little wonder.
