OR maybe it's to stop them getting hungry baby food?

Most of the supermarkets in the UK advertised the days that they would be closed (but most were open today), did they not do that in Tenerife?

probably did have a sgn up somewhere but I just expected a supermarket to be open today as I don't plan my life around their random closing days, new years day fair enough - the day after? Erm no.

Even Hiper Dino opposite were open xmas day, boxing day and new years day!

They did have a sign in the doorway in Iceland.

Surely you don't begrudge the staff a well deserved break after keeping the store ticking over and shelves being full for Christmas?

It's not about giving staff the day off. They did that Xmas day and new years day - if they feel their staff should get more time off just stagger the shifts so one day someone's off then the next another is off .

When every other supermarket is open there must be something wrong

I agree, terrible decision by Iceland. Today was a totally normal day here so why close? Letīs see if they are open this Friday for 3 Kings Day which is a big bank holiday ofcourse.

Okay fair enough then, if that was the reason. I am just feeling lucky tonight that I didīnt go around half the Island trying to find a tin of Chicken soup. eek2:

Maybe it will make people think of the days when shopping was done in your local shops, if you encourage the growth of a supermarket monopoly, just like any other monopoly offering a service, then you must expect and accept the worst from it, along with the benefits.

@Henry what a pity you didn't go into Hiper Dino opposite Iceland in Los Cristianos. I'm sure they would have done soup there.

I find it weird that so many people go on about Iceland, we hardly ever shop there, the Local supermarkets are good, if not better and cheaper ! Maybe its a socialising thing, getting together, meeting up, making friends . . . . . !! ??

There was nothing wrong just a stock taking day for the shops. Calm yourself down

When every other supermarket is open there must be something wrong Both those days fell on a Sunday when they are closed in Las Chafiras plus they did do a great job of keeping us supplied with Christmas goodies at excellent prices (with the exception of sprouts) over the whole holiday. They opened on Monday the 26th when many other shops closed. MAny of us remember when everytrhing you wanted for Christmas had to be brought over from the UK.Not even a Christmas tree could be bought on the island. A big cheer to Iceland especially Lorraine and her cheerful patter. Not to mention the Xmas earrings.

Maybe if they could charge double price like the taxis etc they would be open 365 days a year

Well I have to say a bif thank you to Atlantico for stating this view which I have repeatedly made, here and elsewhere. It really astounds me when I go there, for the sliced bread which I cannot get elsewhere, and watch people push trollies full of tinned items like baked beans, soft drinks and many things to numerous to mention rather than to go to our own Spanish supermarkets who stock identical items at a fraction of the price Iceland feel they have to charge. Beggars belief but clearly they have to much money in their purses/pockets.

Given that the store is now used by hundreds of Spanish people, they must think it good value. Many of the prices in Iceland are much cheaper than the local supermarkets although this wouldn't have been so a couple of years ago when Iceland was very expensive. Have a good look around now and see the difference.

As previously stated Iceland were shut on the 2nd Jan for stock take. The only other days they were shut were Christmas Day and New Years Day. Las Chafiras shop has different opening times because it is on an industrial park but Las Americas shop is open on the 6th.
