Happy New Year 2012 from Puerto de la Cruz!

Well today, January 4th, it looks like the calima I predicted a few days ago did come, as it nearly always does when we have east winds.
And it will be here again tomorrow, so we are having beautiful blue sky weather with sunshine and mild temperatures.

I've heard there are big waves down at Punta Brava beach this morning. However the AEMET weather site doesn't give any alerts for rough seas.

Temperature in the shade on my windowsill at 11:15 am stands at 21.2°C and the humidity is down to 37%.
Here's the view over the Orotava Valley from El Sauzal on the Bodegas Monje webcam:

...and here's my front porch view of Teide, my back patio and Suzie, who knows how to enjoy the sunshine.

On Sunday I went walking around La Paz with a girlfriend and we stopped to look inside this church, Nuestra Seņora de La Paz.

The weather was chilly and windy, at least so it felt to us locals, and we were duly wrapped in several layers, with neck scarves, thick socks and winter shoes. The temperature was probably around 20°C.
Meanwhile the holiday makers were clearly evident, dressed in their sleeveless shirts, shorts and sandals. :)
I've been told that one's blood becomes thinner after living for years in a warm climate and we tend to feel the cold more. I wonder if that's true.

The weather looks like it will continue to be sunny with some cloud over the weekend. The predicted high temperatures are around 20°C which is not what it feels like in the sun, where it is definitely hotter.

Enjoy the weather and have a lovely day!

Good Morning and Happy Reyes....6th January, 2012!

A beautiful sunrise here in Puerto de La Cruz with a pink sky and a Teide that tempted me to run out in my pajamas at 7:55 am to take a photo.

But although the sun is out there are a few clouds around, differing from yesterday when it was like a mid-summer's day with a totally blue and cloudless sky.

Air temperature at 11:00 am this morning is 20°C, humidity a little dry at 47%.

The forecast for today is mostly sunny with some cloud and a high of 22°C.

We may get a little rain tomorrow and there's the possibility of some snow arriving on Teide. Temperatures could drop a couple of degrees over the weekend.

Sunday is expected to be cloudy but with east winds. The forecast for next week is looking good.

Enjoy your holiday today!

Thursday, January 12, 2012...Puerto de la Cruz

Good Afternoon!

Haven't we been enjoying wonderful warm weather...and this sunshine and calima will continue on through tomorrow.

We have east winds for the next couple of days, sunshine with a little cloud for Sunday and 65% possibility of rain showers Tuesday and 50% possibility for Wednesday.

Temperatures ranging from 16°C to 22°C for Sta. Cruz, a little lower for Puerto de la Cruz.

Here's the early afternoon view from Bodegas Monje webcam today, overlooking the Orotava Valley with Teide near invisible due to the calima:

And a closer view of my neighbour's double poinsettia...still looking pretty good after being in bloom for a few weeks:

Enjoy these warm days just in case the rain begins to fall next week!

Bye for now,

Puerto de la Cruz - Thursday, January 19, 2012.

Good Morning!

It's a beautiful day and we have calima, sunshine and blue sky, all of which will carry over to tomorrow,
with winds from the east, giving us fine weather.

Here's the view from the Bodegas Monje webcam overlooking the Orotava Valley at around 11:00 am:

Current air temperature on my outdoor windowsill is 22.7° and humidity is low at 41%.

More fine weather is forecast for the weekend with some cloud Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning,
when the winds are from the northeast.

Monday could be cloudy.

It's interesting to note that the UV index which has been at 3 over the past weeks is now at 4,
so the intensity of the sun is going back up.

Here's the bird of the day and a Sonia rose of this morning:

I'm home with a sore throat today and having to miss a lunch with two other ladies from this forum. Darn!

Be careful of the changes in temperature as it's easy to catch a cold when it's hot outside and chilly indoors.

Enjoy our calima and have a great day!

Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Puerto de la Cruz.

Temperature 10:30am 16.3°C, humidity 61%

Good Morning!

Christmas was already a month ago today. rolleyes2:

Well the day has started out half sun, half cloud and as you can see by the Bodegas Monje webcam overlooking the Orotava
Valley, there was some heavy cloud lifting when this screenshot was taken after 9 am this morning.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Tenerife-North-Weather-2/i-SmctSbM/0/L/snap0063-L.jpg

There's still plenty of low cloud, but the sun is behind it and blue sky is appearing.

The forecast is for mixed sun and cloud, more cloud than sun on Friday and Saturday, variable light winds from north and
northeast.

The provincial forecast is for some light rain possible in the north, temperatures rising a little.

Air temperatures: lows at 11° to 12° and highs up to 21°.

Today's rose is one that I love:...La Minuette aka Minuette, a low floribunda growing 60 cms high, bred in USA in 1969.

The nights are chilly, so stay warm. But the days are beautiful and still no rain.

Bye for now,
