More than 43.000 people have joined the petition in Actuable created by Proyecto Gran Simio which asks the Spanish authorities to returnthe killer whale Morgan to his natural habitat. He his at present living in the Loro Parque in Tenerife.
According to the petition keeping Morgan in captivity gravely threatens his health and welfare, There is a strong risk that the health and well-being of the killer whale will be reduced if he remains in the park. A wild Killer whale might live up to 50 years, in captivity this is averagely reduced to eight years. Also animals in captivity can suffer illnesses and tend not to reproduce. All this information is detailed in the note by Actuable.
The tale of Morgan started in June 2010, when he was found off the coast of the Walden seas in Holland tired and injured. He was sent to the delfinarium in Hardewijk to recover and was shown there to the public. At that time the scientists and investigators formed the group “Free Morgan”. They started to fight against him being sent to a animal park and wanted him to be returned to his natural habitat.
The Ministry of Agriculture in Holland examined the information presented by the group who demanded his freedom. But he remained in captivity and was moved to the Loro Parque after a court hearing.
The petition in Actuable asks for his freedom. Every time someone supports the petition an email is sent to the Spanish and Dutch authorities, as well as European ministers and the management of the Loro Parque.
"This is why Actuable exists: to have a platform available for any person or organisation, in any place so you can start a campaign and achieve objectives which most preoccupy people”, stated Francisco Polo, founder and director of Actuable. "Proyecto Gran Simio have founded a movement and tens of thousands of people are demanding the liberty of Morgan." he added.
