Puerto de la Cruz, Thursday February 2, 2012.

Temperature at 09:30 am...14.5°C.

Good Morning!

Here we are in February already....and we still haven't had any rain.
But the evenings and early mornings have been chilly haven't they.

Today so far we have mixed sun and cloud, with a heavy low cloud cover over the Orotava Valley as seen in the Bodegas Monje screenshot of around 9 am.

Here's my early morning shot of Teide as the sun was rising at 7:53 am:

Today we should have some cloud in the afternoon. The general forecast for the north of the province is possible light drizzle in the afternoon.
Winds from the east overnight and up to noon tomorrow when we are expected to have some STRONG WINDS, 25 - 30 kph and a yellow alert over the whole archipelago, with high coastal waves around the eastern islands.

Friday afternoon and Saturday are expected to be cloudy in Puerto with temperatures from 11 to 19°C, although east winds from Saturday afternoon up to Monday should mean warmer temperatures.

The UV readings these past weeks have been down to 3 but have risen to 4 and is forecast to be 5 on Monday.

Here are a couple of pics from the back garden this morning:

Enjoy our mild weather but be careful of the wind from tomorrow afternoon onward.

Bye for now, :)

Added after 10 Hours 53 minutes:

Thursday evening, still Feb. 2nd.

Although the Aemet weather forecast for Puerto de la Cruz for tomorrow still sits at winds of only 30 kph, the general forecast now for Tenerife and the other islands is for winds of up to 70 kph starting in the afternoon and continuing over Saturday when there will also be high coastal waves.

Be prepared and take in awnings and umbrellas and move light furniture and flower pots to a sheltered place just to be sure they don't fly around.

Air temperature at 10:00 am....16.8°C, overcast with intermittent light drizzle.

Good Morning!

Just a quick weather update since yesterday. We are having a little bit of light rain here in the north, but I just wanted to mention the new forecast for tomorrow, Saturday.

The yellow alert has now been upgraded to orange for high winds for most of the islands, with speeds of 90 kph expected for Orotava and Vilaflor from Saturday at 3 pm until midnight as well as heavy coastal seas around all the islands. Here's the Aemet map for Saturday:

Winds of 70 kph are expected to start this afternoon all over the archipelago.

Oh and before I forget....we have CALIMA forecast again for Sunday all over the island!

Stay safe! Bye for now...

Added Friday 6 pm:
The orange alert for wind and high coastal waves continues now up to 3 pm Sunday.

So far this afternoon there hasn't been the slightest breeze where I live in Puerto de la Cruz, but I'm ready with umbrellas taken in and small pots moved from the patio.

Well it's now 10:55 am and there has been a strong breeze here since 10:30 am. Didn't hear any wind overnight though.

The trees are thrashing around at intervals however the sun is shining brightly and there is plenty of blue sky.

Looks like a fair weather day. We'll see.

Good evening....it's nearly 7 pm and it's been a chilly day, although there was some sun out this afternoon.

Teide had some frost and a little snow but it wasn't visible to the eye from my house and the webcams up there by the telescopes showed frosty vegetation and fog with views nearly totally obscured.

We can expect rain tomorrow from around 1 pm and continuing up until Friday morning.

Aemet shows it as a yellow alert with 15 mm per hour rain accumulation.

Snow has been predicted on Teide from above 1900 meters. Here's the RTVE weatherman:

The view from my window after 6 pm today showing my weather station and back garden, 17.7°C and rain predicted.

And the blackbirds are back in my tree eating their Friskies dry catfood.

Don't plan on hanging out your clothes to dry tomorrow just in case we REALLY DO get this much needed rain....let's hope so! :)

Bye for now,

We arrive tomorrow around 2pm - for 2 days.
Any good ideas for enjoying ourselves?

Well the rain was supposed to start around that time although it's looking pretty nice this morning (Thursday).

Temperature at my outside windowsill is 12.5°C.

Sky is pink and blue and there's no snow on Teide. This is the view from my front porch at around 7:40 am:

and to the east, there are no threatening clouds. I guess they will move in later:
