Good Morning from Puerto de la Cruz!

Current air temperature at 10:10 am is 16.5°C with humidity at 61% on my shady garden windowsill.

We're under the influence of a high pressure area and the weather is beautiful, sunny but still with a chilly breeze.
The forecast is for more of the same, clear skies and sunshine, temperatures rising slightly and the UV scale now at 6.

Here's how it looked yesterday, Saturday, March 3...it was over 24° in the shade and the humidity was low just after 1 pm:

And later in the afternoon after 5 pm:

Have a good Sunday, but bring a cardigan if you're going to sit in the shade....just in case. :)

Good morning from Puerto de la Cruz!

The sun is shining and the sky is partially overcast.

Air temperature at 11:00 am from my shady windowsill in La Paz is 19.7°C. humidity is at 64%, which is normal at this place.

It's been windy enough to lift my sun umbrella up out of its stand, and a few light flower pots have tipped over.

CALIMA is forecast for tomorrow with moderate southeast winds Thursday and Friday with light east winds on Saturday.

Sunshine predicted for the next days, with a little high cloud Saturday morning.

Low temperatures around 11° and official highs at 18° to 20° although it really is a little warmer than that.

This morning's view from the Bodegas Monje webcam:

This heavy calima will continue this morning, gradually lifting later in the day. At the moment the western islands are on yellow alert for calima.

Temperatures mild to warm, 15° to 21°C .

Sun with a little cloud over the weekend and the UV index, now at 6, will be up to 7 on Sunday.

Have a good weekend!

Re Calima..... What does a Yellow Alert mean?

canarybird
09-03-2012, 10:19
The weather warning system uses three levels of notices or warnings to alert the public to weather phenomenon that could be anything from low to high in danger levels.

The first is the yellow alert, or mild disturbances, the next is orange and the highest degree is red alert.

They can be warnings of anything from high tides to strong winds, deep freezes or in this case, calima and the colour denotes the severity of the phenomenon.

In this case, an alert for heavy calima could be a warning to those with breathing problems to avoid outdoor activities, and to everyone else of the reduced visibility on roads etc.

Here's the view of La Orotava totally obscured by dust at 2:15 this afternoon. Normally you see the mountainside and the houses from here.

There's still going to be calima again tomorrow but more pronounced on the eastern islands. It may be clear here.

Good Morning from Puerto de la Cruz!

We have calima again today and so the sky is overcast with a haze and the air temperature at 10:45 am is at 19.7°.
Here's the view over the valley on the Bodegas Monje webcam:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Tenerife-North-Weather-2/i-TBnH4LR/0/L/Calima-16-March-2012-L.jpg

This calima could be quite heavy and it's predicted to continue for the next two days, even reaching the north of the Spanish peninsula.

Clouds and east winds predicted for the weekend.

The UV index is rising and is now at 7 so take care even when it's cloudy.

Here's the view from my house....it's dull and humid today. Humidity currently at 75%.

I found these little solar lamps in Leroy Merlin.... a set of 3 in a package for only €5.95. Love them.....but now we need the sun back again for them to work!

Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Good Morning from Puerto de la Cruz!

Well we have sunshine and calima here with strong winds.
Shade temperature at 11:45 am is now at 26.1°C and rising.

Humidity is low at 34% and still dropping. (Normal for this outdoor spot on my window is 63%).

I'm also coughing and sneezing a lot today :(

The wind has pushed over my laundry racks several times but it's a great day for drying clothes in these conditions!
It has also lifted my sun umbrella up into a tree, but I was able to rescue it.

As I write this my doors are slamming throughout the house. Time to close everything.

Here's the view over the valley from the El Sauzal webcam of Bodegas Monje:

http://www.pbase.com/canarybird/image/142121213.jpg

More calima and warm weather predicted for tomorrow, so enjoy the heat and have a good weekend!

Sorry Sue.....been kinda busy lately.

Here's the weather of today....Friday, March 30....beautiful & sunny in Puerto de la Cruz!

Temperature in the shade at 6:40 pm is 22.2°C with humidity at 56%, a tiny bit lower than normal for this window spot.

When I read you post I ran outside and took these pics from my front porch:

And a hanging petunia basket planted by my cleaning lady who loves to put together flower baskets for me.
And those little inexpensive solar lamps from Leroy Merlin look great shining at night as they are so bright.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Tenerife-North-Weather-2/i-FV6Z3nk/1/L/P1140826-L.jpg

Enjoy the sun because it looks like we may have rain here next week. There's a 40% chance for Monday, a 70% chance for Tuesday and Wednesday.

We sure need the rain desperately here. Let's hope it rains heavily during the night and is sunny during the day, That way everyone will be happy!

Watch out for the UV rays as the index is now up to 8 these days.

Have a good weekend.

We had rain forecast for this morning but it hasn't reached us yet. I've just hung my washing out so it's probably on its way.
