I had a reminder from the garage to have the car serviced and in my head thought it must be due in May sometime. Finally dug out the paperwork to see it's not due til August.

However, as I know I want one or two things done I started to look at the paperwok and, in particular, my mileage. I am conscious of the fact that I have tried to reduce my driving, but when I checked I found that in the past 7 months I have driven less than 4000 miles and this equates to about 5100 for a full year. Normally I'd drive 12 -15000 a year.

Anyone else noticed significant changes in their driving habits?

I think you need to re-check your maths.....
4000 in 7 months ..12 months would equate to about 6800 ...
i,ve done about 22,500kms annually.... in ..5.5 years...124,000kms..
about 75,000 miles...and all on this small island ....:dbluecar:

I worked with a Male Group at one time.
It was interesting to compare Mileages from time to time.

One Chap who lived a similar Distance away always did about 50% more than Me.
This was going for (to Me) , meaningless drives of a Weekend.
I rarely went anywhere without a reason, and still dont.

Some Years ago I rationalised My Life and moved closer to Our Daughters House and bought a small Car.
Four Years later the Mileage is just past 16k. This used to be around seven thou a Year.

In the UK I used to average 15000 miles a year. In Tenerife I have covered 68,000Km in just over 6 years so that's roughly 11,000km or 7,000 miles per year, and I do a lot of call outs, but most of my work is within 20km of home.

I bought my car 4 years ago, as of next week (1st ITV due) and have just passed 60,000 kms.

Don't need to be a mathematician to work mine out...;)

You are one of the drivers here who I cannot understand how you do such figures, as you rightly say, on this Island. It quite defeats me but I,m quite happy at my 5 or 6K pa! (Kilometers)

Typical day today... 8.45am Tijoco Bajo to Faņabe Plaza to El Madronal to Guaza....
back to El Madronal to Tijoco... back to Faņabe..then finally back to Tijoco..5.30pm
approx 73 kms...Dont do this every day.. but on average between 60/70 is the norm..
Then there,s the family and friends day trips out when they come on holiday ...

I have clocked up 500 mls this year(march to march) , the year before was 900mls that was a big driving year. My mates tell me its a sin to have a car at the door , i passed my test Aug 1981 and always had a car so i would feel naked without one . Although i do have my White van and would do about 20,000 per year . Its hard to see out the windscreen with all the KFC , McD`s and BK empties on the dash . Plus i live 1/2 a mile from city centre so my missus walks .
