View Full Version : Other Bark beetles are killing pines here

I am very concerned about the number of dead and dying pines here which as far as I can tell from examining the bark is being caused by bark beetles. I first noticed dead trees up by Chinyero last year but have recently seen a whole lot like this in the walk from Monte del Agua down to Los Silos. The forestry department here obviously knows about the problem because they have been felling trees.
It is not just the Canary Pines in the forests that are dying but also the Norfolk Pines that are often planted for ornamental purposes.
Bark beetles attack weakened trees and many pines were burned in the fires a couple of years back and now all trees are under stress from the ongoing drought.
In America millions of acres of forest are lost to bark beetle damage and it could happen here! I published this report on the matter:
