:hello:,

We are a family of 3 looking for a move to Tenerife, thinking if things do work out it may be about a years time as we still have a lot to look into ect if we can get work and somewhere to live.

Hi Sharon & co Ive lived here 15yrs I would recommend it to anyone who has money to live on & able 2 buy an apartment /house. I brought my daughter up here from the age of 9yrs as single perant it has its ups and downs but the weather is great no central heating bills, lower utilities bills my elec approx 70e a month but most places have community fees too which are on average 90euros a month, water rates 15e approx. Work at the moment is hard to get example we have 3 Iceland super markets in the south aparently they have a long waiting list of applicants, I have been doing bar work /cleaning/ child minding/ home help anything I can get but havent had a shift for weeks even tho it has been busy since Christmas. Are your children school age? most of the schools are Spanish but there are a few private English schools. My daughter went to Spanish school to start then I paid for her to go to private English school the last few years. If I had my time over I would have waited for her to finnish her education in the Uk. She is now 24 has a partner speaks fluent Spanish because her partner is Spanish they moved away last year as they had no work. I stayed as I now am retired. Having first hand experience of living here I can give you more info. just ask. Lee.

Hi Lee,

Yes my daughter is 6 in July this year and at moment I am home education her but if we do move Im thinking about putting her into a Spanish school as her reading, writing and maths are really good and a bit ahead. I am also considering becoming a childminder but would have to look into the law and demand and what I could charge. We just got back from two weeks in Tenerife and loved it ESP the weather as I suffer from SAD during the winter and my life in uk is rubbish as I get depression for about 5 months.

Thanks suej,

Very interesting reading and yes my husband is thinking the same we buy something over there and I stay in the uk over the summer and move to Tenerife over the winter for the sake of my mental health. I also have degree in hospitality management was wondering if there is much work in hotels or is the work given to Spanish staff.

Hi your daughter would benefit greatly to learning some Spanish first as my daughter found it quite hard and wasnt really learning anything for a few years I think the schools expect children to be able to under stand some Spanish b 4 they will accept them. It used to cost approx 100euros a year for the books they have to be bought from a specialist shop plus pens etc. I have adverised a few times in the Local paper Canarian weekly a small ad costs 20e looking for work & child minding no luck tho. The average wage here is 5e an hour when if u find work you need a contract from the employer many wont give you one but you need this to be able to reg with a Free Spanish health centre priscriptions are quite cheap. Many medications, can be bought over the counter. Their are some private English Doctors but you will have to pay, around 30e each time.

You just need to bear in mind that the positives raised about UK are not attacks on Tenerife! Good Luck with your move!:goodluck:
