More Ketchup than Salsa by Joe Cawley

Just finished this fab book on my Kindle.

The story is based on a British couple who up-sticks from the UK to open a bar in Tenerife. Its full of laughs and a little sadness at times.

Its a definate laugh out loud book and really hard to put down.:laugh:

Being a regular visitor to Tenerife over the years I can relate to some of the places referred to in the book and I would say that to those of you who have moved to Tenerife you will find this funny too.

I understand that Joe still lives in Tenerife.

I sincerely hope he's still writing cos I can't wait for his next one.

A DEFINATE MUST READ BOOK :jump2:

Having been away in the U.K. for a week or so, and on re-logging onto this Forum again I am getting a message saying I haven't posted for a while, so I though I would reply to this one.
I read the book in question some years ago and quite enjoyed it, but more recently have been reading another Tenerife based author by the name of Tony Thorne MBE - whose has many stories based upon Tenerife itself, and he is a user of this Forum.
Whilst on the subject of Publishing, I may as well blow my own trumpet by stating that I am about to release my own book which also features Tenerife in it's final chapters and will be titled "Highway to the Sun".
You will find it soon on Amazon, initially in paperback form, but maybe later in Kindle format.
I wonder just how many British authors who live on Tenerife there are in total, and what is there subject matter? - Fact, Fiction, or something else.

I know of at least five British authors living in Tenerife - a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.
Good to get Tenerife in the publishing world.
I guess as with all authors we're all happy to see our books do well so good luck with yours.
Got my eye on that elusive number one spot on Amazon UK. More Ketchup than Salsa is doing well, but still a ways to go!

If anybody's got a blog or website, grab an affiliate code from Amazon and make a bit of money yourself, while helping Tenerife (and me) get to number one.

I could possibly swap it for a homeless cat Cat woman! Ha, ha. I actually have a copy of this book but it's in storage and I have so many friends who are waiting for me to dig it out, but that's a job for a cloudy day which is bound to be Saturday and/or Sunday on my days off! I do have a homeless cat I have been feeding for a week and will be taking it up to the vets to see if it's chipped. If it isn't do you have any ideas as to where I could take it? Would love to keep it but I can't as I'm living in a friends rented accommodation and I can't risk damage to furnishings. It's living on the ground floor terrace at the moment but I'll be moving in the next month or so and I need to get it sorted. It's a lovely cat - Siamese and very friendly but the poor thing looks a bit bedraggled and skinny. It's eating cat food by the ton so I suspect it has worms although I'm pleased to say that I haven't seen any. Sorry to go off the topic a bit.

Thanks Nigel. Reviews on Amazon greatly appreciated. Afraid 'Rachel' was a slip-up. Don't know why, but that name slipped in when it should have said 'Faith'. It's been changed in the third edition but slipped through many a sub-edit and proofread from the publishers (and me).

We're next in Tenerife in Jan 2013 and were planning to take a walk up to El Beril as we've both read and enjoyed the book.
What can we expect to find there now?

Just to put pictures to the words will make it worth while.

JC24
27-07-2012, 11:16
El Beril itself hasn't changed that much, though the Smugglers Tavern has changed almost beyond recognition. It's now called Taverna Lorenzo's and is swamped either side by inflatable crocodiles and other supermarket paraphernalia. There is a little bar above it called Smugglers, using the same kind of chalkboards that we used, but that's nothing to do with the Smugglers in the book. In fact, the original Bar Arancha that was there is featured in the sequel.
Hope that helps paint the picture a bit more for you.
