hi all,

I will be most probably moving to Tenerife south at the end of the summer, renting an apartment in Las Americas. I work offshore so I will commit to work on a monthly rotation, and I'll spend my onshore time in the island. So no issue for me about the job, however my girlfriend , who should join me after a few weeks, will be looking for anything in the hotel/retail business.

I've been to tenerife a few times and I liked it a lot of course, however it was always for short periods so I could just assume how the everyday life can look like on a "normal" basis, and that is what i am interested to learn about.

I heard from a few people living there, the only issue (besides the lack of jobs) is that they get mainland sick... feeling a bit claustrophobic in the island, for the short spaces... I don't know about that.. however, I'd be glad to hear some inputs from people who moved in tenerife and care to share their everyday life impression.

how does the week goes by? assuming a working schedule 9-5, inexistent commuting time, going to the beach, supermarket, shops... any advice is welcome!

ps I thought to rent for 3 months initially and I thought of a 1 bedroom apt and I found those 2 in las americas: the royal garden , El Dorado ... I see they are well located but dont know much.
Does anyone have tips about long term rent in the area?

thank you
Alex

I get up in the morning at 10am sharp. I have my first Bucks Fizz at 10.15 with boiled quails eggs and bread soldiers. This is followed by an all over massage by a team of well bred female Swedish masseurs.

I'm now ready for a dip in the pool and some relaxation time. This of course is accompanied by a chilled bottle of Bolly and assorted canapes.

My driver calls around at 2pm to take my to the gym where I spend the next 15 minutes on the vibration plate burning off all the excess. After the gym I take a well earned nap.

Matron wakes me at 7pm and my valet gets me dressed and ready for a grueling evening of casino and fine dining.

I get to bed exhausted at around midnight.

Life's what you make of it. ;)

OMG are you my twin? hahaha.... I get up at 7am every morning, down to gym for 8.30am, 20 mins weights or running, 20 mins abs, 1 hour class e.g. Monday Body Step, Tuesday Spinning, Wednesday Attack and CXWORX, Thursday Pump (or more often than not stay in bed), Friday Spinning, Saturday CXWORX and our monitor does a class from youtube from a lass called Zuzane Lite or something like that :spin:

Finish each morning at 10.30am, have a well earned cuppa with the other girls , then home, housework, chillax, make a nice meal for OH and son, chillax, chillax and even chillax

Mind you, I think I need to put in an all out effort and find a job soon.

When I was working, it was 6 days a week, split shifts, so the days whizz by, and if you're not on a bad wage, you tend to end up eating out quite a lot, which is what happened with me and OH, so now i've spent the last 2 and a bit years trying to lose all that weight I put on during the 13 years i'd worked here so far .... things are not always easy here, but it's a wonderful place to live once you get used to the ways of the island.... and yes, I get "itchy feet" at least once a year (though that could be the gypsy in my bloodline) and normally I find I just need to visit friends and family and see a bit of the English countryside, but I can't say that i've ever said "i'm going home" because Tenerife is home to me.

ps part time work is so much more enjoyable.
