I was wondering if there was a gardening thread on the old forum and if we could have one on here. I dont know the difference between a dandilion and a dahlia, but would much appreciate any information or tips from 'those in the know' with green fingers. x

Why on earth are you sow green about this budding thread. It has been a lawn time coming and had to turnip eventually. You carrot disagree with this and I'm sure any Mod worth their clod will daisyly see that it's all dung in the best possible taste. I'll just go on garden leave now:hole::D

Okay I can give you some suggestions. Easy to grow and colourful in a small area: geraniums, lampranthus (http://www.nps.gov/prsf/naturescience/ice-plant.htm) (ice plant), succulents (http://trialbycupcakes.blogspot.com/2010/11/spectacular-succulents.html) are very easy to grow, dipladenia (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tarjeplanta/2511705252/in/set-72157605181144813)which comes in different colours, petunias (http://www.humanflowerproject.com/index.php/weblog/comments/petunia_wizard/) are colourful and don't take up much room even if they only last one season.
You can also grow herbs such as Italian flat leaf parsley, basil, thyme and wild celery in a small space.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Canarybird, helpful as always. I have tried flowers but they didnt last long but I do have a couple of succulents left plus a couple of flowering aloe vera plants which just appeared on their own and are now quite big.
And Medman, it's not square, it is triangular! About the size of a Christmas tree....... tongue is now finding its way back to my cheek....:)

One of my neighbours has a herb growing with long triangular leaves. He tends it lovingly and sometimes trims it but I dont know what it is.
