Hi, I am new to this forum but can someone please help.

A group of us are arriving by cruise ship on Monday 9th July and I have tried to arrange a half day morning tour of the island with TOURS IN TENERIFE.
They say that they are not available due to a summer holiday.
Is the 9th July a special holiday date in Tenerife and if so will that make it difficult for us to find an alternative tour operator.

Not to sound difficult but by looking on one site I found the information you are looking for. We are not on the moon and Google does recognise this Island! Anyway:-

I think that something like this is more accurate because it shows the local holidays for the provincia:

Appreciate your replies.

I did previously check and together with your replies appears to confirm that there are no holidays in July so that’s strange that I received the following reply email from TOURS IN TENERIFE when requesting a group tour.

Quote: “Thank you very much for your e-mail and interest in our tours.
Unfortunately we are not available on July 9 th. due to summer holiday.”

They appear to be a reputable company and come up frequently when you Google for tours in Tenerife.

I think it's more than likely that the operators of this firm are on holiday at the time. Just a guess...

Ah! But for a non-Spanish speaking holidaymaker, surely one in English, such as mine, is more suitable?

Mother's Day on 8th December??? I think something got lost in translation there, Suej.

It could just be that the company in question is going to close for the summer. Or may be that doesn't happen in Tenerife. Certainly happens here. Kids break up from school and everything shuts down until they go back again. Crisis what crisis.

Happy birthday for the 8th.

BTW, we will be in La Palma on that day. :)

Yes, I was wondering if that could be the reason.

Anyway an update.

I have just received a more positive reply from Orange Bus Tenerife so we will see if they can help us with a suitable tour.

Thanks again.

I have posted the calendar of public holidays in the Canaries on another thread in the past but to save you looking here is the list again, with the following the official fiestas for Tenerife in 2012:
6 January, Epiphany
2 February, Virgen de la Candelaria
5 & 6 April, Easter
1 May, Fiesta del Trabajo
30 May, Día de Canarias
15 August, Asunción de la Virgen
12 October, Spain Day
1 November, Todos los Santos
6 December, Día de la Constitución
8 December, Inmaculada Concepción
25 December, Christmas Day

The above 12 holidays are the 11 fiestas for the Canaries together with the extra day which each island enjoys which, in Tenerife’s case, is 2 February for the island’s patron saint day, Virgen de la Candelaria.

In addition, each municipality will have its own two days, bringing the total number of fiestas for every part of the Canaries to 14. It is the proliferation of these two local days throughout the island that gives the impression that the whole of Tenerife is constantly on holiday.

Hey Garlicbread! That is what I call a list of holidays. Noticed that none of them appear to have religious roots!
