My grandma is carrying the torch through Kexborough on the 25th June.

All torchbearers can buy a torch replica for 200 quid!!! bloody rip off from the Olympics committee in my opinion. Luckily for my gran, Coca Cola have offered to buy it for her. :)

I've never really been a fan of Coke, but I'll let them off on this occasion. :)

A lot of people are reselling them on EBay, so I don't think the original buyers will lose out.

I read somewhere that the true cost of the torch is between £600-£700 ech and that it is heavily subsidised (Olympic fund pays for it most prob)

I read somewhere that the true cost of the torch is between £600-£700 ech and that it is heavily subsidised (Olympic fund pays for it most prob)Then they should make cheaper torches... It stinks of commercialism. Surely the people that are picked are picked for a reason - because of their contributions to sport. To expect them to pay 200 quid seems way too much in my opinion. My gran's a pensioner...! What's she supposed to do? Pay for it with her heating allowance and then use it as the heater in her lounge? ;) :D

A bit off topic now, but a mate's hubby was awarded the MBE a few weeks ago at Buck Palace. She told me last week that they were not allowed to take photos inside the palace. There was an official Palace photographer for that. Fine... all well and good... until they were asked to pay for the photos...

Not 20 or 50 quid for the CD of pics... nooooooo... they wanted 650 quid for it! then more for the video. :nono:

The Olympic Torch is coming through our village on 20th July and it's our 38th wedding anniversary on the same day. Friends and family are coming to watch the torch with us, then it's an all day BBQ :D

We only need the weather to be good for a perfect day !1

Anyone of my friends and family that do not know and are interested...

We're all very proud that my Grandma, Muriel Brown, was selected as one of the relay team to carry the Olympic flame for London 2012. The Olympic Torch Relay is taking place over 70 days and Muriel will be doing her bit for the team on Monday.

Grandma will be carrying the torch as part of the Leeds to Sheffield leg in Kexborough (Barnsley) on Day 38, June 25th at 3.30pm [UK time] as the flame wends its way down to London for the big event.
Mum's going along to fly the flag at the event, but for anyone that can't, like myself, you can catch it from the comfort of your armchair because they're streaming the entire relay live each day on the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay

Just click on day 38, 25th June and hey presto it should work.

I do hope you can share the moment with us - rain or shine, and please feel free to pass the info on to anyone else that you think will be interested.

How inspirational... I'm just watching the live feed on the BBC and currently, Jack Mitchell (http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=jack-mitchell-1095/index.html), a 19 year old with right-sided hemiplegia, is walking with the torch. :c2:

I'm assuming you're watching it on the TV with Harry Gration
If so did you see the interview with Steve "Rocky" Whitehead about 10 minutes ago
