We are trying to help a seriously skint friend who is trying to scrape together his fare home. He is offering to sell us his ipad for €300. Whether or not it is worth this isn't altogether the point as he needs the money to get back home (not the UK). But we've got this laptop and my kindle and we're wondering what we'd use the ipad for. Or should we just lend him €300 and hope for the best!

Well..... I use my iPad for accessing the web, managing my finances, reading books at night, playing games, and so on.. My iPad has all but replaced my laptop and is a useful back up to my ereader..

You weren't to know this, of course, but this laptop is less than a week old! Had I known about the ipad last week, things might have been different. Can you send books from your kindle to your aaaah ... you just download books to the ipad is that it? And can you read it at night in a darkened room next to a snoring OH?

There's a Kindle app for iPad - so you can have your books in both locations and it should sync between the Kindle and the iPad so that you can stop reading on one and pick it up at the same point on the other.....

I also have a brand new laptop which has hardly been out of it's bag because I find my IPad so very portable to access the web, emails, read books and play games
Almost wish I had not bought laptop as I could hardly be without my IPad
Definitely recommend them

Thanks so much. I rather fancy the ipad but OH just sees it as a duplication of effort. As I'm a bit of an insomniac I fancy being able to read at night without turning the light on.

I do almost everything on the ipad now, plus listen to music all day, lend it to my clients to play games, watch tv in the garden, read books, do invoices etc etc.. couldnt imagine being without it now

I use my iPad every day, I have had all kinds of computers but this the best no hanging about for it to boot up, and yes it's handy for reading in bed if you lock the screen. The only thing you can't have is flash player. Great if you also have an iPhone to sync with.

I use a football to play games, a TV to watch TV, a book to read a book:laugh: Don't know how I'm still alive

What I've seen of the ipad it seem to be limited in what computer activities it can perform, like running Office, Photoshop etc. and something like that wouldn't interest me. I gave up lugging my laptop around, so some sort of 'pad' for lightness etc would be ideal. But I need a more regular computer. I await with interest the forthcoming Microsoft pad!

I use the office programmes on mine without a problem and access them with dropbox and now I have downloaded an app so I can print them from the home pc, not ried photoshop though

What a well trained guy, he even rinsed it down and put it in the dishwasher. OH would never have got that far!

On reflection, KG's reaction was because she's got one. My amusement at the guy's domestic skills is because I haven't got one .....yet!

Just shown it to OH and he can't see what the problem is ... thanks Bobmac .. perhaps.

Sorry for being a bit thick, but how do you watch TV on your ipad? Can it be done in Tenerife for British TV?

I use filmon.com
and I have a vpn to use Iplayer. I would not be without my I pad now, but I have no laptop only a tower computer,
You can instant message people on it because it syncs with Iphone
There are so many things one can do and I am still learning and finding out.

whats an i pad? lol :eyebrows:, joking apart i usualy watch a dvd player on the flight over to tenerife and it used to last 4 hours but it only lasts about 3 now so has anyone got any ideas as to what to buy for our next trip in october? it has to have a longer battery life and take dvd's, unless modern science has developed something with a long battery life that i can watch anything without a dvd player?

I take my Ipad everywhere. It fits in my bag and I am always in touch with the world whenever and wherever I am (thats why I like restaurants/bars/cafes with Wifi!)

I can also watch tv via filmon.com on the Ipad but even better for me is when I take photos with my Ipod touch as they are automatically synced to the Ipad, therefore easy to edit.

Being a gamer, this also makes it invaluable.!

Get an ipad. Then download a programme called Aiseesoft to your computer/laptop and then record films, tv etc and keep them on file. Then transfer those you wish to watch to your ipad to use on your plane journey. Once watched, delete but they remain on your PC if you require them again.

Well, I have the ipad now and our friend is safely where he wants to be. Apart from reading a magazine or two on it I am completely lost as to the point of it. I have no idea how you do anything on it frankly. After reading the newspaper on a kindle this is far more frustrating.

I have arranged to skype my god-daughter tomorrow as her mother promises me she will be able to talk me through it. Hah!:confused:
