Why was the President of China going up Teide today?

When I was leaving for work today at about 3:45pm, the top of our road was blocked off and I was told I could not drive through to Guia de Isora because the President of China was going past.

I had to detour up the Teide road and then drive down through Chirche in heavy fog. I got to work 10 mins late, but so did most of my students for the same reason, so it was no problem, and apparently the big limo went past about 10 mins later with a massive entourage in tow...

I have 2 questions...

1) Why is he here? I doubt it's just a recreational visit - so is there something in the pipeline regarding using Tenerife as a resource of some sort? Is there a deal going on?
2) Why should the whole world stop and main roads be blocked off for over an hour preventing normal folk from going about their daily business in the process?! Honestly. :rolleyes:

Perhaps he wanted to see where his money going he gave spanish government half a billion onmay24th. Chinese citizens also have very reduced tax rates and import rates here in return for such funding hence the growtch of the chinese warehouses.

According to a very close friend of our familiy who is an Operations Manager at the airport, he flew in on a private 747 amongst huge security at the airport. Fanabe was the worse affected in relation to Police presence both on the ground and surveillance helicopter wise. There is a major deal being discussed between all parties regarding a Theme Park which will make Siam Park look like a kids playground. Watch this space.
