I dont have an NIE even though i own an apt for 6yrs , the bank took my passport number and said at the time that that was my NIE number . A friend of mine over there has an NIE number which was given to him by the police i think , so how do i get mine , any help much apreciated . thank you.

I was always under the impression that an NIE number was compulsory when buying property or a car in Tenerife

Yep, me too. Hubbie & B-I-Law bought apartment 17 yrs ago and I also have an NIE number. Other people have had to the same. :confused:

years ago they used either passport or NIE now they will only use NIE
We are not supposed to understand the rules just go with the flow
