It might be worth sending Buenos Dias Canarias a message through their facebook page!!! they do tend to act on stuff like that, take it from me, I knows you knows :wink2::whistle: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Buenos-D%C3%ADas-Canarias-Televisi%C3%B3n-Canaria/183511701698966

If someone that knows about all the dogs or is involved in trying to get some authority to do something about it (or someone on the other thread) they could send to Buenos Dias Canarias photos and information/dates of when ayuntamiento or police have been contacted over the last year or so, obviously without success... give them a few days and they are pretty good about replying. If you want me to type something up in Spanish, I don't mind translating whatever you want (my grammar isn't brilliant, but they'll understand) just send me a PM......... worth a try !!!

I was so grateful to read in the local paper when I first arrived on holiday about the dogs attacking a lone woman walker around the Port Royale area when she unwittingly disturbed them near some bins. I often walk around that area shortly after 7.30 every morning and rarely meet anyone. I took heed of the warning and stuck to routes with shops, people, delivery vehicles etc. I really think some action needs to be taken and very soon before a tragedy befalls someone!!

You will find another thread on this. Both Live Arico and K9 are independant refuges struggling desperately to feed many dogs heartlessly dumped on their doorsteps. The Port Royalle pack are now in need of specialist personel to catch them, more than likely using tranquiliser guns, way out of our legal and financial means. They have become a headache for the authorities, who have failed miserably in their duty of care to the public. Of course they will eat a cat, they are hungry. I suggest, to you, and to everyone in the area, that you relentlessly call 010 to complain about the dogs. Only then MIGHT something be done. Sadly, they will end up dead, through no fault of their own........

i'm going to copy my comment on the other thread then, as I reckon someone should give it a go...... might give the ayuntamiento the kick in the rear it needs to sort it finally...........

I have been informed by a vet that we need to contact an animal protection society who will come along and tell us what can be done legally as the Police are not helping. On the other post it has been suggested that those interested parties should meet up locally to discuss what plan of action we are going to have - it is in the papers this week so current news again.
I would suggest we meet at one of the bars along the mirador strip as they are affected by this too.
Invite the Animal PS, newspapers and BD Canarias. They cant all ignore it.
Can anyone who is interested in getting this off the ground get in contact.
Thanks

A few threads exist on this topic, and all have expressed concern of an innocent being attacked. Incidents today from our terrace.

1/ 1230pm/1300; 7 dogs took residence near the Mongolian Restauarant, but this time on the grass right outside, not at the bins. Much barking and commotion, especially at the "correos" moped girl. 2 men in hi viz vests in an unmarked white transit seemed to take interest at 1pm, but the dogs scattered.

2/ midnight-ish, staff from the Mongolian went screaming and stamping towards the bins, the dogs again scattered, revealing a traumatised lady (tourist i thought) holding her skirt up to reveal the back of her leg, dunno if bitten or scratched. An ambulance came, commotion died down, lots of talk on the street. Just an update on what i/we saw, no rumours.

I think it would be interesting if Someone had a Taser.

Might be the only way to catch the fiercest ones now..

Hi Mods, any chance of merging with"port royale dogs" thread or renaming it "wild/stray dogs"? Not easy for folks to pick up on with this title, thanks, Sean.

Just back home from the summer in Tenerife (what a difference a day makes in terms of the weather!). Our apartment is at Royal Palm and for the first time we saw the dogs when we were there. They often walked down the street past Rosies and jumped up onto the Barranco at the end of the road. A couple of times one of them tried to come into the complex and had to be chased away from drinking the pool water. We also saw them a few times sitting on the grass island opposite Bar 39. We were told by one of the bars that they had attacked a man one evening whilst sitting on there (I'm not sure whether he approached them or not). We had walked past not long earlier and they were all eating something so presumably were being protective of their meal.

The office staff from Royal Palm rang the town hall, the cabildo, the police - everyone, and were told that they were over-stretched because of the fires, but that there was someone meant to be coming from Santa Cruz to deal with them. I don't know whether or not that happened because for the last week or so, after the incident with the man being bitten, I didn't see them again. Quite glad really because I was concerned about them coming onto the complex when the children were playing there.

a lady holiday maker was attacked and badly bitten on the leg by this pack last week in the oasis del sur area. Time for some drastic measures IMO.

This is oh so sad. For man and beast. If only we had had more help earlier when there were just a few?
It's terrible that this should happen to an innocent holiday maker. But also sad for the poor dog that was dumped there originally and her descendants..... Who because they were born born there, in the wild, see it as their territory. And the need for food drives them to such measures. Sad indeed.

In the Absense of any action Locally, I wonder what the Tourist Board know of the Happenings in Their Five Star Territory.?

Well I had posted a link for Buenos Dias Canarias local news facebook link (see second post on this thread)... I suggested that a private message was sent through that page.... it' worth a try. I've put a complaint in through there once regarding something else and it was on the news, and they contacted the local council... so like I said, worth a try.. but haven't a clue if anyone tried through there... if you don't get the news out there, then nothing will be done.

A few years ago the Arona mayor used to complain about the El Fraile neighbourhood group, that they always had some report or other in the local papers... but it got things sorted, and so it's a better place to live.
