I've not been to Tenerfie before, but have hired a car and plan to explore the island.

I have an iphone with Google Maps, but wanted to know if there is any alternative SatNav app with maps of Tenerife?

Thanks

I use Navmii GPS Live Spain (http://www.navmii.com/AddToCart.ashx?b=a1a855c9-57aa-4904-aaf9-66f7552d63a9). The maps are not as good as Google, but they are offline.

Thanks - I've used NavMii before, but didn't realise that there were maps for Tenerife :-)

On the question of Sat Navs, is there one available locally specific just to the Canary Isles which I could purchase but use in different cars ie. that I could swap from my car to my wife's depending on which one we are going out exploring in?
I live in Los Cristianos by the way.

The problem with Google Maps is that you have to be online, for visitors this can be mega expensive.

I doubt there is a Canary Islands only SatNav, but any one from Spain (http://www.carrefouronline.carrefour.es/noalimentacion/NodoTerminal.aspx?itemId=cat910032&pila=catalog310002@cat410024@cat910032&menu=yes&navCount=0&itemMarcado=catalog310002&sortPrices=%2B) should work. And of course you can use it in any car.

Get Sygic or iGO. Offline with perfect maps and interface.

That sounds interesting - are these apps? How much are they?

Google Maps can be downloaded to be used offline but I think this is for Android devices only. You could try Route66 on iPhone. I believe they have a worldwide 30 day try before you buy and maps can be downloaded for use offline.

I've just downloaded NavFree Spain. This has offline maps, and as the name suggests its free too. You can opt to pay £1.49 to remove the ads.

Or the app navmii above uses different maps and costs £3.99

Sygic is a premium product, but now is not a good time to spend a lot of money on a map app, as iOS6 is rumoured to have it built-in. NavFree, iGo Offline and Navmii all use OpenStreetMap, but I think the Navmii interface is the best.

I've just downloaded navfree for Spain on the back of this thread, and it's got my street on it, so it can't be that bad! :) http://www.navmii.com/navfree/
