There's a planned General Strike organised by the CCOO and UGT unions thoughout Spain on the 19th July 2012 to pritest against the cuts, the IVA rises and the bank rescues. They are calling for everyone to support it.

It's possible that there may be a lot of closures and a lack of public services that day, so be aware.

Apart from venting what will they achieve? Rajoy cannot reduce the cuts further, indeed he got a concession for the bank bail out to extend the period by 12 months that Spain has got to reduce the deficit.

The Unions haven't twigged yet that they aren't as all powerful as they may have been in the past, that events have overtaken their belligerence. What is needed is for every one to pull together in the same direction, instead of just looking to their own short term self interest.

I feel most sorry for those that are unemployed and those struggling to provide for their families, but the excesses of the past have caught up with Spain and the mess has got to be sorted out.

Rajoy will do what he can for the banks as they're all his mates ;) What they need is to be put in jail... not a bailout. These people are crooks.

Now, here is something we agree on. :)
