View Full Version : The new Tenerife train / railway project
If you have any information about the proposed railway line connecting the North of Tenerife with the South, how it is developing, if work has started, if plans have been formalised yet - post it here.
Having a train will be great for the island and the train in the North from Santa Cruz to La Laguna looks to have been a success.
Well the flying scotsman is ready, just need some rails on the inland side of the TF1, then jobs sorted, what a site that would be.
This report (25 Oct 2010) says it should be operational in 2018 and will cost 2.346 millions - 2.3 billion I guess that is

Here is a bit in Spanish (http://canarias24horas.com/index.php/2008102857165/tenerife/el-ayuntamiento-informa-que-las-obras-del-tren-del-sur-podrian-comenzar-en-2011.html) about it. And here is a wee bit of the route showing the tunnel through Guaza mountain to Los Cris and Las Americas.
The lilac line is the railway.

I wonder if property prices in Guaza will go up as a result?
Does anyone have a list of where the stations will be.

Ha,ha,ha, forever the optimist arent you?
Guaza prices will increase at the same rate as Beirut I would imagine, probably alot less, allowing for local conditions.

I would caution too much notice of these articles in view of the fact that the most recent is 7 months out of date and some more than a year. I point this out with no disrespect, to Harmonicaman, for taking the time and energy to trace these articles.
I don,t have to hand any of the most recent articles making specific reference to San Isidro being a central point for the railway. It will have the largest station/car park/shopping areas other than Santa Cruz, as they are already, to a fairly large degree, already in place.
I am taking a personal interest in this project being 63 yrs old earlier this month and, hopeful of staying alive long enough to travel on this railway, at least once. In addition to that since we live in San Isidro I am of the opinion that this will become a most desirable place to live and to be able to commute either way, without the car. As you may gather I am totally optimistic of this project coming to fruition as I was on the Rail/Tram in Santa Cruz much to the shagrin of former colleagues (sp).

More recent articles include
This (http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2011/04/18/economia/1303112017.html) on in April where they discuss that we probably don't need an electro magnetic train although it may well be a dra for people who might not use it otherwise.
Their own website is here (http://www.trenesdetenerife.com/?page_id=20) and the model is now back in Santa Cruz at the Intercambiador (main bus station)
It was in Adeje for a while and has made rounds of other places where there will be stations.
On the 26th of May in el Dia newspąper there was this article (http://www.eldia.es/2011-05-25/canarias/4-Gobierno-estudia-como-financiar-tren-pactara-cabildos.htm) which says the government in Madrid is looking at how to raise finance to get our trains north and south built.
So they haven't decided on the type of train/track yet?
I thought all of this was sorted and construction was about to commence.

We saw the exhibition about it in Puerto in January and staff answered questions. The Northern line will be built first according to the staff there.
Harmonicaman thank you. Is it possible to see the whole map of the Southern route?
It will be horrid whilst the track is being built, but perfect once its finished.

Well this week's paper stated that, with the current influx of money from the Cabildo, the priority was road widening in the south. So there are now roadworks at Las Chafiras and Guaza streaming traffic into new slipways. Soooooo...... the completion of the hospital, the completion of the inner ring road, the ports at Fonsalia and the Marina at Puerto de la Cruz are as far away as the train project .........dreaming on!
