Heya,

I went to post a message in members announcements and this came up

Debbie_22, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Can someone please advise me as to why my account has been disabled?

It's most probably because you only have two posts and are still being moderated as a new member.

I know we have all had to re-register, but I have posted before (on the new forum) and all of a sudden I posted something and get a note that it has to be approved first. As it stands, my post has not appeared.

Is it because I posted a link? Because other postings in the thread have links and they are there.

Post count v link in thread is normally the issue .

redarrow
15-06-2011, 12:31
And moderators can approve regardless of the post count. Does this mean contributions to the previous forum don't count?

Same happened to me. A week later still not approved!?!?

Some posts are automodded by the software and those posts appear in the Moderators section for approval. Posts can be automodded due to a number of reasons, considered spam, or containing links or swearing for example. The post is then looked at by a Mod and then validated or rejected. Normally if it is an innocuous link is is just validated and then appears on the forum.
The only posts awaiting moderation at the moment are obvious spam and none with your username, so I can´t say what happened to your earlier post. I will ask the Admins to look and see if they have anything in their queues, that I can´t see.

As it's a new database with a sophisticated spam filter a lot of posts by 'new members' (as far as the filter is concerned) are automodded awaiting approval.

Some are not approved, for obvious reasons and some are edited if they breach Forum Rules.

Once a member's post count is 10 then the filter ignores it and it is left to members to report problems.

This has only become a noticeable issue lately because as far as the database is concerned everyone is new, we've only been running 2 weeks.

It has given the mod team a lot of work to do but not nearly as much as we would have had to do without the filter. Just check the stats.

If all the spammers had slipped through we would be an advertising, porn filled, drug pushing joke of a site.

Remember that 2 weeks ago everyone started from Zero.

TenerifeTeddy

I agree it is still being automodded, not sure why, but as Slodgedad says this is a new system, and the bugs are still being ironed out. Any post that requires validating will be handled by any available mod.

It would appear that since we have a new forum we have lots of people telling us what will and will not happen, perhaps we should leave it purely to Admin and the Mods as it becomes very confusing as to who actually knows what is going on and who thinks they know

Has this been resolved?

There are none of your posts awaiting moderation. Indeed there are no posts whatsoever that need approving from anyone

Normally it should show in the user title that he is, so it would be clear to everybody, but I'll have to dig into why it doesn't. It's supposed to be automatic.

I just started a new thread & cut & pasted an article rather than posting a link so that it would not go into the 'needs moderating' queue.

Guess what message I got??

"Thank you for posting! Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting. You will now be taken back to the forum. If you opted to post a poll, you will now be allowed to do so."

??????

The antispam system is quite sophisticated, but also very sensitive when users have few posts, as you do.
Probably that article triggered the anti-spam filter since a known way of creating spam in Forums is to copy a news article from somewhere and post, and just stick in a reference to whatever the spammer wants somewhere (or nowhere in the post itself, only the signature).
I don't know if that was the case for you now, but it's likely.

To be honest, I don't know why the auto-moderation system is so much to complain about; It's better this way, where valid auto-moderated posts are usually approved within minutes, than having a forum flooded with spam. Check the stats at the bottom of the Forum home page, and you see how much it would be!

I don't know why it was automodded, may have been something to do with the outage we experienced.

Unfortunately there wasn't a mod on line when it happened. I've just done it.

Posts are not actively monitored and we rely on other members to report posts if they breach the forum T&C´s. Your post may have been moved by a mod to a more pertinent part of the forum. I found a post of yours timed 2044 here (http://www.tenerifeforum.org/tenerife-forum/showthread.php?4436-Advice-on-Importing-a-car-from-the-UK)regarding advice on moving a car to the UK.

The forum is not actively moderated and relies on the membership to report dodgy posts.

At the moment, as we are all newbies as far as the filter is concerned, a lot of of posts are being auto modded as though they were spam.

I know it's a pain but at the moment it is the only thing, as a new Forum, that is keeping us spam free.

Anything that is automodded is usually dealt with in minutes, provided there is a mod on line.

First place we check.
