Does anyone know where I can get a larger amount of euros? Ie. not from ATM as it only allows 300€. Anywhere that does a debit card transaction for 1000€ near las chafiras? Does the airport have somewhere? Tks!

I remember the CAIXA Bank used to allow 600 euro/day via the ATM, they still may do it?

All only allow 300€ now. It came in a few weeks ago. You'll have do a transfer, you won't get it in cash.

I was stunned by the complete lack of technological advancement when I tried to get something like this done in Tenerife. Not even Caja Canaria at the airports (currency exchange) bit could do anything. All over the world there are exchange places....travelex et al and it turns out in Tenerife the only place to use your debit card for currency is in the blinking casino where they charge you 10% on top!

Also, i don't know why this is, but I thought european law was changed so that any UK transfers MUST be in a european bank account at latest next day by close of business?

Miraculously, it arrived in my account within minutes ;)

As far as the technocological advancements go... get used to it, or live elsewhere, because it really does not get any better!!! :D

Was this a Spain to Spain transfer Kirsty? I had a transfer take place last Tuesday and it has still not arrived into my account. One Spanish bank to another Spanish bank - very annoyed!

I'm amazed. Every time I have transfered money from Lloyds to Solbank they have always quoted 3 working days, but I have yet to wait 24 hours.

Hi like Slodgedad, I can transfer funds from Natwest to Solband within 24 hours. What's more I can transfer it on-line. Fee only £10.

I got some money once out of my own account (needed to pay something) they gave me a bankcheq instead of cash and charged for the cheq afterwoulds for taking my own money. . . . .
Since then I go and only take cash if ever need to pay something.
You have to watch out here and always cheq them for hidden costs. Twice!

If you do a tranfer from one bank account to another it costs 3 euro .
To pay the rent now I go take the money in cash and go to the other bank to pay the rent. . . . . It takes some time but saves 36 euro a year, yust for this.

Had a very similar experience. When I went to ask if the Bank knew where the transfer had got held up, they smiled brightly and said they'd had the money all along but had been waiting for me to go in and ask to have put on my account!

Hi, as per previous post, I use Internet access for both accounts, (via apps), this way I can watch it go from one account to the other.

It was as UK bank (Barclays) in Gibraltar to Caja Canarias. But that's not really the point. They're trying it on all the time these days.

A week later another transfer from America took a day!

Means a visit to the bank for me and a lot of wasted time on Monday morning then...

Exactly. That's my problem... maybe it's time to move accounts, but then again, it doesn't mean other bank will not be just as bad in the current economic climate. They're all as bad as each other!!! Do you have telephone banking? Maybe that'd be easier than taking a trip to the bank? :)

I do all our transfers online which from a currrent account Caja Canarias doesn't charge for. They charge for transfers from business accounts but being autonomo I just move the money from one account to another. We had transfers in from Germany last week which took 3 days.

I transferred from Lloyds UK to HiFX, Hifx sent to Banca March all within 24 hours, no charges from Banca March or UK Lloyds and a good exchange rate from HiFX, quoted three days max - brilliant!

We either go into the branch for large amounts of cash when in Tenerife or go to the ATM a few days in a row at 300 euros a day.

Not from the Santander.Went into Santander in Los Cristianos(Near Dinastia) this morning at 8.30 and they didn't have any cash. They told the man who needed cash quickly and who had had his cards stolen two weeks ago(still not replaced by said Santander) that he would have to wait until people paid money into the bank before he could have any!!!! 2012 in Tenerife.

Perhaps worth checking Paypal charges from one country to another if its UK to Spain
Then if you know someone with a paypal account here you can transfer it to them & get it out of their local account

Heard today of a German here who urgently needed 1400 Euros and who took it out of the cash machine!! Everyone here is agog. If I find out how he did it, I'll let you know.

Sometimes the amount of cash you can withdraw from an ATM (if you use a UK debit card) can depend on the type of account you hold in the UK, for example an HSBC Premier account allows you to withdraw more each day.

Transfers from UK to Spain may vary by the type of transfer (which is quite laughable really as the bank do exactly the same thing). Some banks offer an economy transfer (costing less) and a normal transfer. Some banks don't differentiate. Often we don't wait long for money to transfer - just a few days.

Depending why you need cash in a hurry, those factors may outweight some of the cost involved. It would be as well to check out companies like http://www.currenciesdirect.com/
