I don't know how much of the lunar eclipse we'll see tonight but the sky conditions look pretty good with no heavy cloud.

If you have a simple camera with a good optical zoom and are thinking about trying to take a photo tonight...I think the eclipse will be at its peak, that is the moon at its reddest.....around 9:20 pm Canary time.

I wrote a few notes last time on how to take a photo of the full moon and have them on my photography blog on this page. Here. (http://foodphototips.blogspot.com/2010/01/photographing-moon.html)

I hope we can see something tonight and can get some nice pics of the eclipse.
Good luck if you are going to try!

Not got a fantastic camera but am going to try and get some pics. It is very clear out, even the haze from the Calima has gone and I have a very clear view of Gran Canaria from my roof. Happy snapping everyone :)

Thank you for posting such an informative post. I've set my camera to the details on your blog but can I just ask.....do you need a flash or is it bright enough without it. Have to admit, I've often looked at your photos but never your blog but from now on, I'll definitely be paying closer attention. Thank you for the tips, so nice of you to share your expertise with us.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Nic you don't use flash for this type of photo, but you sure do need the tripod for a steady, clear shot.

Now we seem to have some light cloud cover.....and I can't find the moon!

Oh dear....still searching. ???

Well just been on the roof with binoculars and managed to see the moon just as it was coming out of the earths shadow. It wasn't as red as I thought it would be but maybe that was because it was coming out of the shadow.

Hopefully I've attached a composite image of the moonrise over the Izana astrophysics centre between 9:30 and 10 tonight.
