Temperatures are due to soar even higher here inTenerifefor at least the next couple of days, according to the Meteorological State Agency. TheIslandis currently under a yellow alert with figures hovering in the high thirties. As always, the public has been advised to stay cool indoors if there is no need to go out.

This is set to increase to orange alert as temperatures soar to a minimum of 37 degrees Celsius.

Of course visitors here for fun in the sun should take care to stay well hydrated, drinking plenty of water, and use appropriate sun protection at all times. Sports and other energetic activities are not recommended during peak heat times.

And with the rise in temperatures comes additional risks, not just to the public. The Tenerife Cabildo has reissued its prohibition on all fires, whether barbecues or otherwise, in the forest and recreational zones.

In a communication from the Environment Department, various activities have been listed as banned for preventative reasons during this time. For instance, farmers may not burn off agricultural waste or stubble in their fields, no bonfires and no fireworks.

With the coming of the hot weather there is always an increased risk of fire and after the horrendous blaze just a matter of a couple of weeks ago, the authorities are keen to avert another disaster. At the moment, according to officials, the risk of fire is a worrying 78 per cent.

Finally, the Cabildo advises that the public should not make any unnecessary trips into the forest areas of theIslandwhile these unfavourable conditions continue.
