Where should we exchange pounds to euros for our holiday in Tenerife?

Can anyone give advice on how best to ex gbp to euros ?
We will be over soon, staying for the month of Sept really looking forward to our trip.

There are a number of credit cards now where foreign transactions have no charge, I find this a good way for the majority of cases as less need to carry so much cash!

We use Caxton FX currency cards. You load it up and use it for taking out cash and/or paying for goods/meals etc with no costs for using it abroad. You might lose slightly on the exchange rate but for us it's proven to be the best way to avoid carrying too much cash..

my sister and kids are currently in Disneyland Paris and being unsure of availability of ATMs changed cash into eurosjust last week. The best rate available was 1.23 in a high st currency exchange shop which proved to be better than post office, or high st bank.

Since wholesale bank rate is 1.27 or thereabouts I don't think the rate was very good.If exchange places in tenerife are giving 1.25 then that looks a better bet. Hope that rate holds till I'm there in couple of weeks:)

For amounts up to £1000 cash at an exchange in Los Cris or Americas every time for us! Never found a better rate anywhere in Tenerife or the UK than near the Siesta hotel in Americas.

Also at the moment, when you load your card CaxtonFx are offering free insurance to cover you from theft (mugging etc) at any ATM when you withdraw your money and there is a form of insurance included where if you find a lower price than you paid at another shop and have paid using your debit card, Caxton will refund the difference, I have not read the full terms and conditions of these features.

You'll get a better rate at the Exchanges in Tenerife than you will in the UK

Never at the airport, not at a travel agent, and not at a bank. In the UK, a local currency exchange specialist (such as EuroChange) is always the best value.

i get my euros changed at home now saves carrying large amounts of money on you when you go to the exchange places ,usually at ramsdens where you get a good rate.the best rate i found in las americas was near iceland a excursion place over the road you go down some steps, they is some bikes for hire outside it

Hi everybody will be coming out to playa la americas in a couple of weeks and was wondering if there is any benefit in changing sterling for euros when we get there? if so where are the best/obvious places to look out for.

Always seem to get a better rate in the resort than in UK, plenty of places in PDLA and Los Cristianos.Check rate and no commission before making transaction.

In the UK I would change, say, £50 to Euros merely to cover the cost of a taxi from the airport in Tenerife to your accomodation and to get a few essentials, like water, tea, coffee etc on arrival.

Thomas Cook in the UK give a headline rate in their shop windows, but when you look it's usually only if you take a pre-paid credit card. The rate as a walk in is a heck of a lot less, BUT go on-line to Thomas Cook and order your currency there to be collected from your Thomas Cook shop and you get a better rate.

Change the rest of your money in Tenerife.

In Tenerife look around at various money change places - we always found MUCH better rates in Tenerife and usually just a couple of cents under the wholesale rate of exchange.

Family and friends only ever bring enough Euros to cover their first few hours and then exchange the rest here
