I was wondering if I had to ring 112 for an emergency do I get through to an operator in Tenerife or does the call go through to mainland Spain?

I'm not sure... but you are asked for the number off your health card and your date of birth, then they seem to know who your doctor is.

I would assume you get a Canarian operator...

Thanks Kirsty, but I was thinking more about if I had to ring the police or fire brigade

112 is the International GSM emergency number worldwide, presumably from a landline in Spain you will be put through to this system, which has operators that speak many languages. and have Local centres.
