WILL Marsh, Tenerife’s Comedy Club MC has delivered the third most funniest joke at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, according to the judges.

Canadian stand-up comedian Stewart Francis won the award for his line: “You know who really gives kids a bad name? Posh and Becks.”

Marsh was pipped for second spot by TV funnyman Tim Vine, who specialises in one-liners. The ever-funny Vine scored with: “Last night, me and my girlfriend watched three DVDs back to back. Luckily, I was the one facing the telly.”

A big hit with The Tenerife Comedy Club audiences at Showtime, Playa de Las Americas, his line was a worthy bronze medallist with: “I was raised as an only child, which really annoyed my sister.”

In his previous life Will spent a decade working with the public in a wide range of areas, including a stint as a holiday rep. He has accompanied the rich and famous on 1st class flights around the world and given marine life lectures on board catamarans in the Atlantic, plus played matchmaker to hundreds of singles in European, he was also once the lead in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ in Spain. This wealth of travel and his diverse social lives have led to Will becoming two things. Opinionated and Inventive.

The competition, which has been running for five years, is organised by TV channel Dave, with 10 comedy critics, whose shortlist of gags is put to the vote by 3,000 comedy fans.

The Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist for Best Newcomer has just been announced, and it includes Joe Lycett and David Trent. Joe performed here in Tenerife last November and was a hit with the audience then.

Awards producer Nica Burns said: “The performers are all immensely charismatic and often thought-provoking whilst being extremely funny. [These are] two excellent nomination lists.”
