We are planning a trip to the Anaga mountains and the beautiful NE of Tenerife with family in September, and don't want to rush about too much, so looking for a reasonable hotel or b&b (if they exist?) for 1 or 2 nights midweek in Santa Cruz or NE of Santa Cruz. Don't want luxury just a decent clean hotel. Any recommendations?

Plenty of small 2 star in town centre or beyond with B&B

Spent several hours looking through the various travel and info sites yesterday.
Have booked at the Adonis Plaza Hotel (http://www.hotelplazastil.com/)(which was cheaper to book direct than with booking.com, although most of the others we checked were the same price!).
Found this site really useful - http://www.realtenerifeislanddrives.com/Santa%20Cruz.html

We will post a full report when we have been & let you know how we get on!

Hi, I know I'm a bit late with this but we stayed at the Hotel Nautico (http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/nautico.en-gb.html?aid=337251;sid=86debbc6f1607c925e69a2638f8 bed8a;dcid=2) in Santa Cruz last year. It was cheap and clean, there was a Spanish cafe bar next door (no english spoken) where they served breakfast and you can get an evening meal too. The hotel is in a residential area and a bit out of the city centre.

Yes we have stayed at the Hotel Nautico in the past too, and found it pretty good, although whilst we were there the Cafe next door was closed and we had to go to a little Bakery 2 streets away for breakfast. This time though we want to be a bit closer to the centre. Perhaps we'll regret that but will post a full report on our return!

Forgot to mention the hotel is up a bit of a hill.

I think you will like the Hotel Adonis. I stayed there for 10 days in January. It was clean and had a good breakfast buffet included (even though it didn't mention on the booking that it was included). WiFi in the rooms too.

It's well-located for the tram, and for the the 246 bus which runs along the seafront to San Andres then up the mountain and through a tunnel to Taganana and Almaciga in what is probably the most scenically spectacular part of the Anaga Peninsular.

[edit: I see that your link is to the Plaza Hotel, which is nearby but is not the same as the Hotel Adonis. So you might not be at the hotel I'm thinking of.]

We've stayed at the Adonis Plaza Hotel 5 or 6 times and always found it good and its very central and not expensive.

Adonis Plaza for me too. The buffet breakfast is comprehensive enough (why don't Spanish hotels do eggs & bacon very well?). Our last stay was for the Santa Blues concert this year, which starts at 9pm. As it is difficult to find a restaurant in Santa Cruz to serve a meal at 8pm to be at the concert for 9pm, we ate in the hotel restaurant which was more than adequate and well priced.

The NH, across the Plaza de la Candelaria, though more modern and a bit more expensive, was not as good for breakfast. Beware, those with a less than intimate relationship, the bathroom has a window straight in to the bedroom, although it is lined smoked glass.

Thanks to everyone for responding, we thoroughly enjoyed our short break in Santa Cruz, and the Adonis Plaza Hotel was perfect for our needs, we can certainly recommend it. Not luxurious, but clean, friendly and with a good breakfast buffet, and free Wifi, as has been mentioned! We also discovered that they do have a few (4 to be exact!) parking spaces reserved in a nearby parking garage which you can pre-book for 7 euros per day, which is much cheaper that public parking if you leave your car there all day.

Will post again about what we did during our stay in Santa Cruz soon...

Yes, we stayed there a couple of yrs ago before going on cruise - very central and breakfast buffet good .
We also had a couple of meals which were nice and good value - too handy for all handbag & shoe shops though !
