Can anyone tell me please, how much longer are the little darlings going to be airborne? I can deal with them at ground level but they seemed to have formed a squadron hell bent on revenge after I forcefully evicted one of their 'pilots' last night..

It would appear that my card has been marked, or in Glesga speak, ma tea is oot....!

That's kind of you, you'd think the neighbourhood cats might take up the challenge but all they seem to be interested in is how quick I can refill the food bowl......! :D

Good question - I reckon that last night it appears that I might have been the landing strip... Any that made it inside have been evicted so my living room must therefore be the departure lounge and the door is the gate!!!! :p

Not 100% sure this is correct but I was told that only the females fly, and they fly when they are looking for a place o lay their eggs! This can happen at any time of the year ..... but is more prevalent in the hotter months. Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!

The ones that fly are bad ,but it´s the ones that crawl into your mouth when you´re asleep and lay eggs that you have to worry about!

They might have in-flight refueling, you'd be in for it then...HA!!HA!! ;)

Whats the difference between a gecko and a lizzard? (not the lounge type.)

I often stoped to feed them, at the parking spot overlooking Puerto Los Gigantes.

first time I ever encountered a flying one was on holiday at parque de la paz october 1998. First holiday with our kids, a 3 year old and a 18 month old. This meant a drink on the strip with kids in buggies until wife spolit fun by deciding time to return to room and get kids in bed/cot. This meant I was soon on the balcony with chilled dorada watching the world go by, having missed seeing Maddona/ cher etc. We had not really seen too much of walking ones , then one night as I sat out on the balcony one landed on the wall beside me . I sat frozen in shock as it calmy walked down the wall to the room below. I quickly finished my dorada and returned to the bedroom where wife was sleeping. I dare not mention the creature I had seen , as the wife would have had all windows shut for the rest of the holiday, and we would have suffocated.

I stayed in Oro Blanco a few times. .......loads of geckos clinging to the outside walls (sunning themselves), five or six floors up.

Fab little creatures!!! At Los Gigantes Mirador they live in the stone wall and if you put some food out and stay very quiet, they

can be tempted out for a feed.

'Cute' is not a word that I would normally use, but in this case I'll have to agree Suej!!

A few years ago when we were visiting Puerto de Mogan on Gran Canaria there was a massive storm and flash floods. Water was cascading down the hilly streets like waterfalls. After half an hour when the rain stopped out came the cockroaches in their thousands (no exaggeration it was like a carpet)! . All the drains and sewers had overflowed and ended up in the river that ran out alongside the beach (lovely!).

Obviously all their hiding places had been flooded. The cockroaches were running over paths, roads, into shops, restaurants and homes like a plague! My children were screaming as they ran over our feet - there was no escape! My children still mention it today (that gives anyone a good impression of Gran Canaria!).

After reading this post I am so glad we were there in the winter and not the summer. I think if that huge number had been flying as well I think we would still be having nightmares!

Since we have been coming to Tenerife (4 years) I think I have seen a total of about 8 cockroaches - just the mention of them now sends my children into “leaping in the air’ mode!

We have a gecko that lives behind our wall light fitting outside under our pergola! he knows that at night there will be lots of insects around the light for him to eat! he has been there for months and has chased other geckos away! Blimey! still trying to get community fees out of him!

I too think they are cute. All called iggies, after iguana's by Me.

I think they must have fireproof skin, as I once dislodged one about 10 or 12 inches long from out of a light cover on the

Costa Del Sol. It was frightening how FAST It moved.

There used to be a few in the Sea Wall at the Bottom of the "Patch".

I'm pleased to say that on my last visit to Tenerife (last week), I only saw two cockroaches in the whole month that I was there, I'm not sure if they are a seasonal thing?

There weren't any to be seen alive or dead on any of the pavements in the Los Cristianos area, apart from the two that we saw on the same evening by the market...one had to land on Carol. :-))
