Vin Diesel and his crew will be filming much of the latest in the saga, ‘Fast and Furious 6’, here inTenerifeand everything is ready as the production gets underway.

Vin returns to the big screen in the action-packed film, billed as the most ‘explosive’ yet, in the company of Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez. Rumours abound that Rihanna might just have a part to play, too.

Justin Lin will direct the film, and action is said to be based inSanta Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz and some coastal locations and a trip will also be made over to Lanzarote. So why chooseTenerife?

Universal Studios are up front and say they are keen to take advantage of the Archipelago’s tax incentives with “The Fast and the Furious 6”. Universal is enjoying the 38 per cent tax credit for production dollars spent in theCanary Islands, with insiders estimating the deal could save the studio around $20 million.

The film has already started shooting here inTenerife. ButSpain’s economic issues are casting a shadow on the tax credit, which other major studios have also taken advantage of, like Warner Bros. who used theCanaryIslandcredit last year inTenerifefor “Wrath of the Titans.”

For theCanary Islands, however, the biggest problem is that its incentive program has not been tried and tested until recently. However, “Fast and Furious 6″ was originally slated to shoot inMarseillesbut relocated to the Canaries for the bigger tax rebate. When currency rates are favourable, it can be another enormous boon to foreign productions.

“The cost of shooting is very reasonable and becoming more reasonable,” said Moreno’s Juan Gordon, who used the Canary Islands’ 38 per cent breaks, urban settings and desert landscapes to re-create Iraq on “Invasor.”

A film must qualify as Spanish to take advantage of the incentives. That could mean partnering with a local production company or using mostly Spanish cast or crew. Universal’s credit could require the production to shoot for at least two weeks on theCanary Islands, create a special tax structure and include local talent or professionals. Other qualifiers include partnering with a local production company.

IT’S fast, it’s furious … and it’s happening here in Tenerife from next week.

Universal will begin filming Fast and Furious 6 (Fast 6) here until the end of October and the groundwork has already been laid.

The sixth film in the hugely-popular Fast and Furious series was to have been shot partly in Marseille, but it relocated toTenerife to take advantage of the preferential tax rates, which will save an estimated 20 million US dollars on production costs.

Tenerife has special dispensation and has a ZEC business zone, which means that the Island has the lowest legal corporation tax rate inEuropeat only 4%, which is a great incentive for businesses.

The action packed Fast 6 is written by American Chris Morgan, directed by Justin Lin. Neal H Moritz, Clayton Townsend and the star, Vin Diesel, are the producers.

The cast again includes Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, a professional criminal, street-racer and fugitive, together with Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, a former FBI agent turned criminal.

Filming began on 30th July at the renowned Shepperton Studios,Surrey, which is part of the Pinewood Studios group.

Lin was unable to obtain permission to shoot an action sequence atPiccadilly Circusinvolving an exploding oil tanker, and so a replica of the landmark was built at Shepperton.

The cast and crew are currently on location inGlasgow, before travelling toTenerife.

Stunt and car-chase scenes began filming there on 29th August, and are scheduled for completion on Sunday week (16th Sept).

Fast 6 will be slightly different from the preceding films, with the theme moving away from the notorious street-racing towards a heist film with car chases.

The reason for the change is that the racing aspect had put a “ceiling” on the number of people willing to see the films and, by turning it into a series where car-driving ability is just one aspect of the film, Universal hopes it will increase audience numbers.

The off-screen action began on Tuesday when 97 vehicles were unloaded atSanta Cruz de Tenerife. The vehicles including luxury trailers, tanks, Nissan GT-R’s, Dodge Viper’s, a Dodge Charger and modified Cheverolet Camaro’s were transported by Grua trucks to a secret location in the south ofTenerife.

The vehicles including an array of super cars were shipped in on the Suar Vigo from theNetherlands.

On his Twitter account Director, Justin Lin said yesterday, “Been staring at a bunch of new cars for the film and I have one question – where do teens have sex nowadays? Long live the #benchseat!

TheTenerifeshoot’s location is a highly guarded secret. Mystery surrounds the specific date and location of filming, plus exactly how long the Fast 6 entourage will be here, but it’s thought more than 400 people will be involved, with locations across the island. The producer of the film, Universal Pictures says it will try to capture “the best moments of the film in the incredible landscapes ofTenerife.”

Rumours abound, many say the reason that the TF1 is currently being resurfaced is because it’s to be used for filming.

Others say that the majority of the action will be shot on the insular ring road connecting the north and south of the island which is still under construction – an ideal location.

The Tenerife Film Commission would not be drawn on the matter of locations, indeed, the high performance athletics centre in Tincer, in the north of the island is thought to be a favourite.

The film is scheduled for release on the 24th May 2013.

Hundreds of would-be extras queued outside the Iberostar Mencey hotel,Santa Cruz, in Wednesday’s scorching sun, all hoping for a spot in the film.

Selection for dark-skinned people of all ages began at 3pm and carried on until 7.30pm

The artistic director of the American blockbuster, Leslie Tomkins, several months ago visited the island in search of sites where filming of the scenes could take place.

In recent years, the varied landscape ofTenerifehas become a highly coveted value for large American film productions, such as the films Clash of the Titans and Wrath of the Titans .

Tenerife Cabildo Minister for Tourism, Carlos Alonso said that “the benefits to the Island with a production like this are not just promotional, appearing in the film will be some of the most strikingTenerifeenvironments, but also economically, thanks to revenue from accommodation, transfers and meals etc which will amount to several million euros. “

Wanted to reply to a thread before but I think it's gone???

What I know;

There is a load of military vehicles parked at the back of Las Chifiras, they have tried to hide them, but you can see everything.

The "Stars" are staying at the Sheriton, and get there tomorrow. Have been told that the improvements to the TF1 on the way into Los Cristianos were done for the filming...

Any more news / gossip?

Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Elsa Pataky, stars of “Fast and Furious 6″ are now here inTenerifeto shoot some key scenes in the Universal Pictures production, expected to be released in May 2013.

The second phase of filming, directed by Justin Li, began recording some interior scenes in a house located in the historic townsquareofSan Juande la Rambla, began this week.

The actors greeted the public but were protected by a tent and a security zone. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson went to the Plaza deSan Juande La Rambla to greet children gathered there, and pose for photos

Apparently, Paul Walker, who plays Brian O’Conner, could not come to the island because of an injury to his knee, so his scenes have been put back and will be shot during the last week, before November 5th.

The base camp of the second crew, where they have installed a large tent and caravan for the artists, is located in Garachico, while the first is still at Tropicana, Adeje.
