Don't even consider moving to Tenerife.
If you want to move abroad for a better life with your family, which I fully understand, you'd be better looking at Australia/New Zealand. They're always looking for skilled trades people. Here you'll find nothing in your field.
It sounds harsh, but if you spend time reading through this forum you'll understand.

You've answered your own question really. Life changes don't come easy, or without money and hard work!
All the regs are WAY different here than the UK. Also you will have to have to be able to speak fluent technical Spanish. Then you will have to jump through all the hoops and expense of becoming self employed as many of the large electrical installation companies employ south American electricians who work for 50€ a day. Still fancy it?

Not unless you have been a joiner, plasterer, car mechanic, bar.tender, tiler or plumber first!
Good luck.

work for any non-spanish skilled tradesman is almost impossible to come by- despite there being a large ex-pat community! no one wants to pay for quality service- expect everything for nothing...!

Turn this around a little how would a Spanish electrician get on coming to the UK offering a " quality service" if he does not know anything about local regulations etc & has no grading card for the UK and he does not speak english so cannot go to college to get the qualifications required.

Still plenty of work in Canada, especially in the province of Alberta where there aren't enough workmen to fill the jobs, especially in construction, oil & gas, factory building etc. My grandson with training as a carpenter is working with FWS in construction of a new factory in northern Alberta. Pay is excellent!
Gets cold there though.

all wiring installations have to be approved in shops and businesses on a regular basis, so there must be a steady stream of work but as a foreigner you will not have the required authorizations to be able to undertake that work. You might be able to team up with an existing spanish electrician and have him sign your work off for a small back hander for the certificates of compliance. Not ideal. and unlikely in today's economic climate. The Building industry has collapsed here. So as the previous post has said you will only be able to work as electricians mate.
Life is not greener on the other side , it only appears to be. When here it looks greener where you were..
I have had an Electrical and Building company for 10 years here in Tenerife. We are fully legal and pay all our Taxes, social and public liability. It took me about 2 years to come to terms with the electrics here. We can now get our work signed off (boletins). I would take the plunge here at this time. If i moved here now i would get nowhere but in the last 10 years we have built up a superb reputation and going strong. Dont make it hard for yourself by moving and struggling.
