Sorry to hear this. I have been a member since it started, but not used it recently as it seemed to be more exclusively for residents rather than both residents and visitors.
I think there is a place for both types of forums (fora).

i use to on it last year. but still upset not as much now then last year. because my computer got a virus from it and even my cus in santa cruz. i report it to the site. but sigy said there no virus . so i wait a few days and went on it on my playstation 3 . it still had the virus and crush my ps3 ( wont start no more) and whould cost me 200 euros to get fix. for the same price i got a new ps3 this happen before xmas last year . i was just a nice guy and didnt want any trouble so i keep my mouth close. and spend 200 euros i didnt had except get it from my bank back then.... so i do hope it get close . at less i be happy

For my part, I joined the other ttf about 18 months ago and I didn't have a row with anybody but seemed to get dumped off it,
without reason. My opinion at the time was that they'll not be there for very long, with that attitude. I mean that if they can get
rid of people for no apparent reason, then they're not exactly competent people to run this type of operation. I've no knowledge of them personally or otherwise. I've probably actually met less than a half dozen of our own members. That's the background to what I'm about
to say.

THIS FORUM is in almost as much trouble as the other one was.

We have (according to the figures on the bottom of the home page) 10'310 members, of whom 2215 are active member. I have no
idea what constitutes an 'active' member, but from the last few months, I'd say there are less that 300. Anyone want to count them?

To put this in perspective, lets say that I'm wrong and that there are 1000 regular posters out of 10000---
This means a
90% DISSATISFACTION RATE



If you have a supermarket or any other type business or organisation, and you have 90% dissatisfaction rate (or simply stay aways)
then it wont be long before you can't afford the leccy bill. An organisation like this needs to more than cover its costs, with some
(lots) of money left over for investment...prizes ...promotions..... advertising the list is endless, if one wishes THIS forum to prosper and not go the way of the other.

I would propose that ALL MEMBERS OF THE TTF BE INVITED to join this one immediately INCLUDING MODS (or whatever they're called) keeping their positions temporarily untill a new combined, dynamic management structure can be put together.....with people being assigned duties like keeping the jokes thread busy.... recipe thread...................and on down the line till every thread is busy like it used to be a few short years ago.

They basically ripped this forum off and took some long standing members without a second thought or care. As is the same in most walks of life those who have no problem with plagiarism often end as they begun - with nothing.

I don't post much anymore on any fora regarding Tenerife ( unfairly banned by 2 though to be fair ) but this one has always been head and shoulders above any other and i've no doubts that in a couple of years there will be only one left with any genuine focus on Tenerife, so anyone worrying about this place going out of business should probably relax and enjoy the biggest and best Tenerife forum on the web - I reckon it's gonna be here for a while...

Active members are those who contribute and not those that join for 5 minutes to ask a question.

Various other Fora are not quite as honest.

Anyone is welcome to join this Forum provided they abide by the T&Cs, so why we should go begging I don't know.

We have proved our worth as an informative and welcoming Forum for all to see.

Well, I wouldn't have put it quite so bluntly. ;)

kingbaker... An active member is one that has contributed within the last 30 days. When we took over the forum from the previous owners and re-installed the software from scratch to get rid of all the bugs we had on the old installation, we took the decision to be honest about our figures and disclose the 'active' members we have. Some members join and only login once a year when their holidays are due. Some login regularly and just read because they're too shy to post. Some post every day, others post every now and again. Some post in spurts of regularity when they have the time or the inkling.

Your interpretation of the figures and stats in your post are just as incorrect as some fora putting their current visitor stats as 1000s when may of them are spiders and bots from search engines.

Our figures for members show the actual logged on members at any time within the last 15 minutes. If your account is inactive for more than 15 minutes you are not shown as logged in. Likewise, if you do not login for 30 days, your account will become inactive until you login again, at which point it will be active again.

Our figures are true figures. Interpret that how you wish :) However our 'lecky bill' is taken care of and we'll not be going anywhere. Thanks for your concern. ;)

Any member of TTF is more than welcome to join us here. We will not be inviting their mods to join our team though, as we have enough current mods here. However, should they wish to offer their services, they are quite welcome to fill in the mod application form (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dE9wUXBGaHBXWWlTcGs0Wk5aWDQ4Vnc6M A..#gid=0), as any member is, and if we need more mods in the future they will be considered along with anyone else. Only people that volunteer to be mods are ever considered, as it's an unpaid position that brings with it a lot of grief. If they haven't volunteered, they won't even be considered.

I agree, the forum is not as busy as it was a few years ago, but neither is the island. A lot of members of the forum have actually left Tenerife and therefore don't post anymore as they no longer hold Tenerife, information about Tenerife or Tenerife friends as part of their daily lives. Also, less people are holidaying here due to the crisis. This is just a result of the current economic climate and is happening all over Europe and I don't think it's a reflection on the quality of members and posts on this forum... however if you feel that it needs people to post more jokes and threads, please fell free to start a few. :)

Agreed, but my opinion is that its success is also due to the wide ranging topics that get discussed, and the Tenerife connections, may only be a liking, or disliking of the Island.

For my part, I joined the other ttf about 18 months ago and I didn't have a row with anybody but seemed to get dumped off it,
without reason. My opinion at the time was that they'll not be there for very long, with that attitude. I mean that if they can get
rid of people for no apparent reason, then they're not exactly competent people to run this type of operation. I've no knowledge of them personally or otherwise. I've probably actually met less than a half dozen of our own members. That's the background to what I'm about
to say.

THIS FORUM is in almost as much trouble as the other one was.

We have (according to the figures on the bottom of the home page) 10'310 members, of whom 2215 are active member. I have no
idea what constitutes an 'active' member, but from the last few months, I'd say there are less that 300. Anyone want to count them?

To put this in perspective, lets say that I'm wrong and that there are 1000 regular posters out of 10000---

90% DISSATISFACTION RATE



If you have a supermarket or any other type business or organisation, and you have 90% dissatisfaction rate (or simply stay aways)
then it wont be long before you can't afford the leccy bill. An organisation like this needs to more than cover its costs, with some
(lots) of money left over for investment...prizes ...promotions..... advertising the list is endless, if one wishes THIS forum to prosper and not go the way of the other.

I would propose that ALL MEMBERS OF THE TTF BE INVITED to join this one immediately INCLUDING MODS (or whatever they're called) keeping their positions temporarily untill a new combined, dynamic management structure can be put together.....with people being assigned duties like keeping the jokes thread busy.... recipe thread...................and on down the line till every thread is busy like it used to be a few short years ago.

What a great post. It really makes me, as a mod, feel that we are doing the job right.

Last year, when we restarted the 'new 'Forum' we were accused of over modding and many hours of unpaid work was put in to sort stuff out.

Now, after more than a year, it has become obvious that moderating is the very basis of an informative, friendly and user friendly site.

This time last year, whilst trollers and spammers were being identified, a lot of members were not happy and blamed moderation but the reverse has seemed to be the case.

As I have said, on numerous occasions, we are not Tenerife Facebook.

We have 'chat' threads, where any old chat is allowed, we have fora which are purely chatty, but most importantly we have information and question threads which we try to keep chat free.

Why do you think we are always near the top of Google when any Tenerife question is asked?

I have never discussed the other Forum before on line but my own personal opinion as to why it failed is that it was virtually unmoderated.

(My personal opininion and does not reflect my status on the Forum)

Fact(s) is/are, when all THREE forums were active at once ( about a year) , most traffic flowed through here, most questions from new people wanting info flowed through here, most eejits who needed to be told about being non-offensive got kicked off here, and (i think) the best laughs are on here. I know of accusations of "poodles " being fired at people for supporting this one, but the proof is right here, we are alive and kicking and despite the odd slow spell, it is still a daily habit for me and many more. Its ours. Long may it continue.

I like reading the other forum(for a bit of fun) but they won't let me on it anymore...some nice people on there though but a few people who love to stir it up that very strange woman for sure is nasty think she lives in a Caravan lol

Jimandsi is also banned from here and has been for about a fortnight, so 90% of any mention of TF has disappeared from our forum. You can't make a decision to not mention another forum in posts just because they are operated with different owners, that would be like Man United refusing to mention the words Man City.
Let's just agree we are two forums trying to get like-minded people involved in a bit of fun and sharing information with each other.

I couldn't care less why that place had to close Del, I was a member here when the split occurred and know how much it hurt some of the admin/owners to see all their hard work ripped off by a couple of ex-members who decided to go alone.

Jimandsi is also banned from here and has been for about a fortnight, so 90% of any mention of TF has disappeared from our forum. You can't make a decision to not mention another forum in posts just because they are operated with different owners, that would be like Man United refusing to mention the words Man City.
Let's just agree we are two forums trying to get like-minded people involved in a bit of fun and sharing information with each other.
Both our founders are over in Tenerife just now, you might be sitting having a drink next to them!:laugh:

I would guess that Doreen had every right to complain when some of the more bitter members continuinously referred to her as Soreen and even now call Kirsty Krusty.
I do accept that the majority of the stirring was done by jimandsi but the fact that he was allowed to do it on such a regular basis is a little suspicious to me - surely if the owners of that forum really wanted to move on then any bitching would have been nipped in the bud ?
Then you have the lovely Howard who spends his time shouting at lurkers who may/may not have a clue what he's talking about as not everyone is aware of the reason for your forums inception.
It all seems unnecessary to me mate. Too many over there are obsessive about here and as long as its like that then you will never grow to be anything more than a chat room for ex banned members of here, and you could be so much more...

I couldn't care less why that place had to close Del, I was a member here when the split occurred and know how much it hurt some of the admin/owners to see all their hard work ripped off by a couple of ex-members who decided to go alone.
I never posted on there as for some strange reason I was never able to log in and my queries to admin went unanswered.

Yep it certainly is Del, my alliegencies were, and still are with the feelings of those directly affected at that time, which unfortunately means that I could never be in that boat.

all this was before my time, so can't comment on what has gone on before, i would say that it's a big world and it's big enough to accommodate as many forums as want to set up as long as they can sustain themselves, but maybe the upset and hurt that it caused from reading some of the posts it's better left alone:dontknow:, i have been a member on here for about 5-6 years now and i remember logging onto ttf buy mistake and registered lol it seemed a friendly enough place, but i didn't stay long because i had more friends on here, and apart from the odd flit over to ttfof for just that a bit of fun then you will find me on here most nights(to my wifes annoyance lol)

Of course it's possible.

Most of the vitriol between forums was directed at us.

We tried, and were accused of over modding, to stop the slagging, whilst the other was allowed to continuously denigrate us.

I was a member of both but rarely posted as most threads were allowed to refer to the 'enemy'

As has been posted on here 'ad nauseum' we never considered them as a threat which cannot be said for them

Bottom line, Tenerifeforum.com is gone,and tenerifeforum.org was saved and lives on, TF of Fun (was sometimes called the third forum) now has a chance to step up as number 2, as an alternative to here. Recent bannings on there suggest that is is heading in the right direction (i.e. not overmodding but stopping petty hurtful insults from repeat offenders who seem to want to contribute nothing positive). So things are looking better than ever.

I personally don't have a blanket approach when it comes to my dislike of TTF, it's only those who set it up on the back of this one and the members who left here and never posted again that I've no time for.
Anyone who joined TTF but remained a member here I've no problem with, it shows that they aren't sheep and have a mind of their own.
