can anyone recommend a good hotel in Puerto, hubby and I would like to spend a couple of days there and have time to have a good look round,
so would like something central or close to the front.

We have stayed at the Monopol Hotel in Puerto and personally I think it takes a bit of beating, you will find details on their website.

I like the Luabay been twice and really like it, Monopole in a better location but I find it a bit noisy with church bells etc.,

A bit rough and ready but ok for a couple or three nights is the Dania Magec, half board about £120 for two x 3nights.

We stayed at the Beatrix Atlantis (www.booking.com/hotel/es/beatriz-atlantis-spa.en-gb.html?aid=342524) in July, it is right on the seafront near the Lago. It is very modern and the breakfast is superb, and we were very happy there.

We've used Luabay a few times, and never been disappointed. Always clean, friendly staff, and only a couple of hundred metres from the beach, five minutes from the bus station and town centre.

Just wanted togive you an update, all the responses were really helpful and we ended up booking 2 nights at the Monopol. The hotel itself is really beautiful, with fresh flowers strewn everywhere in the hotel every day. Our room was small, but had a terrace that lead directly onto the pool. I could get out of bed and be in the pool in less than 6 steps! (room 42 if anyone wants to bear that in mind).

We stayed B&B, the breakfast was fine, not startling, but very adequate and plenty of it. The hotel cost €56 per night which was a steal given its central location, and the staff were excellent. The barman was particularly entertaining as he would have a bit of a dance round the bar if there was any music on. On the subject of the bar, I thought the drinks were really good value given that hotels generally like to sting you in the wallet when it comes to drinks, i think a large beer was €2, and a glass of wine was about the same, and cocktails were €4, certainly cheaper than the bars outside the hotel.

We spent a day at Lago Martianez, which was fabulous. It has to have to largest pool ever, just amazing and only €4.50 each to get in which included th euse of sunbeds and locker for bags.

On the second evening we found a little gem of a restuarant down a side alley, called Casa Pache, which was basically 5 or 6 tables set up outside someones house. The food was cheap, around half the price of the town restaurants and absolutely wonderful, real home cooked canarian food. We had fabulous croquettas tostart, a really beautiful salad, bread and mojo, followed by huge portions of bacalao for me and pork in a brandy sauce for hubby. Accompanied by the usual wine beers and coffee and came to no more than €34 in total. It was just a fabulous meal.

When we visit Puerto during April/May, we are sure to be staying at the Monopol Hotel (vacancies permitting), it's in a fantastic location and still holds on to its old world appearance. For anyone interested, here is a link to the hotel.

No, there is no parking by the hotel, last time we were in Puerto with a car we parked at a large car park along from the harbour, but I know nothing about how secure it is, maybe garlicbread or canarybird might be able to offer advice on local parking.

We used the public car park by the harbour when we stayed at the Monopol and it was fine, love that Hotel

I'm afraid I have no experience in overnight parking down there in the open lot at the harbour.

I've only parked there during the day when I needed to be in that part of the downtown area for short periods of time.

I guess one would have to use common sense and not leave any valuables in the car or items visible on the seats for overnight parking.

Whilst I agree that the Hotel Monopol is a very nice place to stay the reason I don't use it is because it doesn't have a secure overnight parking facility. Thre are two secure parking areas in P de la C (as far as I know) , one in the Martianez shopping centre and the other underground near the Customs House. Neither are cheap but then the sheer inconvenience you suffer if your car is broken into, to say nothing of the associated costs, make it them good value in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't leave a car overnight in the big open car park near to the harbour, particularly a hire car with stickers advertising the fact it's hired.

Have to agree with Garlic Bread I would not like to leave a car on the open ground at the harbour all night but the Europa car park near custom house is not too far from Monopol a little walk away but nearer than where Mercadonna is.
Maybe if you have a car better to stay in Hotel that has a car park and walk to Square

These are some hotels of Puerto de la Cruz, Maritim Hotel Tenerife, Beatriz Atlantis & Spa Hotel, Hotel Monopol and Hotel Tigaiga. Hotel Monopol is my favorite hotel because of it gives best services then other hotels. I went there about two years ago and enjoy there I went there again with my casinos. The numbers of tourists go there and enjoy. I hope you will enjoy there like me.
