Yes 25% chance rising to 40% by Monday, worth keeping an eye out ! A lot of people hoping it will rain and clear out barrancos etc. - no sea swimming for a week!

I was there for that - those white sunbeds being blown into the pool and we know how heavy they are, was pretty scary

I remember that now JJ it was heading towards America and turned on itself and hit us instead! it actually did reach Hurricane level but didn't stay at that level long enough to be classed as a hurricane!

Started off mid Atlantic moving NW and grew into Hurricane F1 then N and downgraded to tropical Storm.

According to my Spanish teacher (not that she is claiming to be a world expert), the problem will be high temperatures and gales (no rain) which will ruin the banana crop here on La Palma ... one of the few things left for the economy of the island. It never rains but it pours except when it doesn't pour.

Yes although the Spanish Aemet weather office isn't really sure what direction the storm will take, as it seems to be moving northeast, it looks like we will have some lashings from that tail.

It seems to head north east and then it curls back again and there is also more bad weather pushing up from the Caribbean which may join Nadine. I hope you get your rain, but I also hope that it doesn't all fall at once as it has done in the past!!

Are people worrying about what's going to happen when it rains after such a long dry spell, Suej? Keep hearing stories about people's gardens are going to be washed away if the first rains are storms and downpours. We could do with a few days of gentle rain first to bed everything in.

Suej
22-09-2012, 18:05
Like Kirsty we had a lot of work done on the outside of our house last winter! as the neighbours wanted their roof redone and cracks in the render and re-painted we went with it and had ours done too at the same time as the two roofs/houses are joined! but we've not had any rain to speak of to know that it doesn't leak anywhere! it didn't before!

I never thought how a deluge might affect us Cainaries! but a yellow warning? there's bound to be a fair amount of the wet stuff!!!

cainaries
22-09-2012, 19:55
We had roof repairs done two autumns ago so the guarantees are just about to lapse! Since they finished the work it has hardly rained here and, like you, we have no idea how effective the repairs have been. Perhaps I should buy some buckets.

Our nextdoor neighbour (like you, Suej, we are joined at the roof and down the party wall) is doing major restoration works and I was relieved today to see that the roof is on. All done in beautiful reconditioned old tiles. Pity he hasn't got any doors or windows in yet!

Spent more on water for the garden this year than we spent since we bought our place in 2001 even if you add all the years together. Yellow alerts can mean quite a lot of something or not a lot of anything, I agree with you there. Where we are on La Palma we don't seem to be on yellow alert so the storm must be going to blow itself out over Tenerife.

Looks like England and Wales are going to get it. It's not actually Nadine, but a secondary very deep low pressure area which she has spawned. (Bitch!)

Could be interesting and hopefully one of them will bring us a good amount of water.

And thats the daft bit, no rain in ages, we get a chance of "normal " rainfall, and folks will think is because of Nadine. (it still might be but looking % wise that we will get a common or garden shower)

From Canary Bird's map it looks as though both lots of rain might meet in the middle right on top of us! Might clean the cars, must remember to put some washing up liquid on the roof of the car when it starts to rain!
