You couldn't make this up!

After producing arguably the most epic contest at Wimbledon last year, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut have the chance to write a second chapter in their SW19 rivalry in the first round of this year’s Championship.

The pair put on the longest match in the sport’s history last June in a contest which spanned three days and lasted for more than 11 hours - a duration which resembled Test match cricket more than tennis. After 183 games the American finally ended the marathon encounter, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68.

Mahut battled depression for three months after the match finished and had begged tournament organisers before today’s draw not to schedule any of his matches for court 18. The French player has previously said he felt a “huge sadness to lose a match that I’ll never get a chance to play again”, but that opportunity is now open to him.

If all goes according to seeding then Murray will meet Nadal in the semi-final stage....let the best man on the day win I say!

I'd be happy for either of them to win the tournament.......however I think Dokovic is having such a storming year , he is definitely going to be difficult to beat.

What about the women?

Don't watch the women, can't stand all the grunting!

Now Now Jackie. I had rather thought that we agreed, in a previous life so to say, that we would not engage in nefarious and completely unnecessary bitter comments regarding this particular Scotsman?
Now I know and understand, because your English, of your inability to comprehend excellence having never seen such excellence in the country of English beings!
I believe that we agreed, previously, that we would not engage in dialogue regarding this young Chap whilst this competition runs its course unless, of course, making reference to his superior abilities and prowess over anything England has produced (incl. Canadians who got their passports altered)!
Said for the last two years that he was not yet ready. Having watched him this afternoon sorting out his attitude I,m not too sure that he may fail this year and actually come out the Champion at the All England Tennis Club.

Bloody typical English. Throwin' their dummies out and putting Mr. Murray onto Court No. 1 with no roof but give all his competitors the advantage of knowing that you will get playing because you are given the Centre Court on the very day rain was/is expected. Can they do anything else to attempt to demean the lad?

Rememeber that if you have a satellite dish, and it is pointing to the UK group of satellites then you can get the BBC Sports service, with a choice of up to 6 matches.
For Sky boxes: go to BBC News, Press Red, 3001, select
For Freesat boxes: go to BBC News, Press Red, Sports, Multiscreen, select (i think)
FTA boxes: look for the channels listed as STREAM0-6, on frequency 12441 v 27.5 2/3

How about something a little more controversial. These players battle through numerous rounds and many many hours of tennis, most of them being knocked out and not earning very much. From this they have to pay coaches, trainers, hotels and travel costs. Contrast this with a footballer often earning Á175,000 a week for 90 minutes of play, ably assisted by 10 other men on his side! Seems very unbalanced to me! Only a relative few earn big money in tennis whereas there are teams full of these high earners on the football fields!!

Oh and by the way, in defense of Garlicbread´s stoic typing marathon to put all the draws on here it would be much simpler to look at the Wimbledon official website: www.wimbledon.com

If you have sky tv here you can watch all the action through channel 503, hit the red button and type in 3001. You can then choose which match to watch.

"The Singles Champions at Wimbledon will earn $1.8 million each
Champion: £1,100,000
F: £550,000
SF: £275,000
QF: £137,500".
Yes. The Mens champion and Womens champions get the same amount of prize money.
Which is just not right IMO.
The women play best of 3, the men best of 5. And the majority of mens games often last an hour or so longer then womens games, so the men play atleast "a womnes game more" than the women do!
I am all for equality.
So if women tennis players want the same amount of prize money, then play best of five!

(BBC Red button match choice may be limited on saturday to a few matches only , with F1, motogp, basketball and glastonbury and other things happening this weekend on the "streams")

I don't agree the women should get the same amount of prizemoney as the men either.

Not just the fact they play best of 3 sets instead of 5, but their game is just not as entertaining and quite honestly I can't be bothered watching the women as all the screeching and grunting really gets on my nerves.

I reckon that most viewers at Wimbledon both at the tournament and on tv are there to watch the men.

If it was a male only tournament I reckon the ticket sales would be just the same, but if it were only women I doubt the ticket sales would come anywhere near and the TV coverage would not be warranted either.

Normally I'm all for equality, but in this case I think the men have got a rough deal

These coaches are to blame for the grunting and barking. I reckon they could have stopped their proteges from doing it years ago but they decided it was intimidating and as nobody stopped them then......But it is awful. I hate it.

Murray needs to realise its no use sulking when you hit a poor shot, Just forget about it and get on with your game, and also get a shave and sort his barnet out, He doesn't look like a winner and his body language often lets him down.
