What a difference in bank charges, on the 21st Sept I withdrew 300 euros on my visa debit card from the hole in wall La Caixa, caja canaria bank the total charge was £244.34.
On 20th Sept in Los Cris at a hole in the wall behind the church Telebanco I think it may be a santandar I got charged £252.85 for 300euros. I shall be using Caja Canaria in future.

Yep, that doesn’t’ surprise me at all. The Santander didn’t get to where it is by being customer-orientated. I suspect that the only time you should use Santander for withdrawals is if you're a Santander S.A. customer and using their cards.

I thought they were the same.
Nope. One is now a subsiduary of La Caixa and has a blue sign, the other has a yellow and blue sign.

Caja Canarias (http://portal.lacaixa.es/integracion/cc/index_es.html?Origen=CC)
Caja de Canarias (http://www.lacajadecanarias.es/)

Caja Canarias was aquired by La Caixa and will be totally assimilated by them. La Caja de Canarias (full name Caja Insular de Ahorros de Canarias) is still a caja with their own identity (for now).

yes I realised after re-reading that OP meant Caja Canarias because they've joined cahoots with La Caixa... all banks are thieving gits anyway LOL cheaper to hide money under the matress with all the fees they keep charging :D

4B is a European scheme that facilitates payments and access to funds through an extensive network of ATMs and point of sale terminals. One of the benefits of this system is that their commission rates are agreed between the partners of the scheme and tend to be lower than normal for ATM users using 4B-affiliated cards.
