View Full Version : Water Skiing Championships in Los Gigantes

LOS GIGANTES will be hosting the Spanish Water Skiing Championships and the International Open Water Ski Championships, according to an announcement from the Tenerife Cabildo. The event is taking place now until the 13th in collaboration with the Cabildo’s Sport Department, Santiago del Teide’s local council, the Canarian Water Ski Federation and a number of sponsors.

The presentation ceremony, which took place in the Noble Hall of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife was attended by Cabildo Minister of Sports Jesus Perez Zamora, Councillor for Sports for Santiago del Teide, Évora Guillermo Marrero and President of the Federation Water Ski Canaria, Juan Antonio González.

The press conference was opened by Minister Perez Zamora, who praised the work of the Canarian Federation and Santiago del Teide in hosting the Championships.

Then Guillermo Évora thanked both the council and the Canarian Ski Federation for their commitment and said, “We invite fans to join us in the marina at Los Gigantes”.

For his part, President of the Canarian Water Ski Federation, Juan Antonio González, acknowledged the support of the Cabildo and themunicipalityofSantiagodelTeide for their commitment and confidence, “In these championships

“The involvement of themunicipalityofSantiagodelTeide has been instrumental in holding the event at the magnificent facilities, with a great hotel for our visitors and, above all, I have to thank the help and support of the Los Gigantes Marina, especially Maximo Calarco (Manager) who has made the work a lot easier.

“We have to realise that the Championships are not only a challenge for the organisers and the Canarian teams, but because we are going to host the best ofEuropeand the world, they are a showcase of what is here on offer for the future. A future that looks good and I will soon give you some very important news for the sport and for theIslands”.

The actual competition began yesterday Thursday, October 11th at 4.00pm with the first of three races, followed on the 12th and 13th with the last events and presentations.

Finally, here are some of the international skiers who have confirmed their presence:

Steven Van Gaeveren: 1st in European Championship European Cup and F1.

Dave Vansteelant: 3rd in the European Championships and European Cup 6th F1 and F2 in the World.

Nico Bertels: 3rd in the Diamond Race in F1.

Vicky Leysen: 3rd in the European Cup of F1.

Bertels-Buby: 2nd in the Junior European Championships.

Roel Hermans: 2nd in the European Championship and European Cup 5th Seniors.

Neil Coppens: 1st Trophy Race inAntwerpin F2
