View Full Version : Health Where should I go to get an ingrown toenail removed in Tenerife?
whatīs up guys?? i have to ask this question, yeah i know it gross!! but i have a ingrow toe nail on the left foot big toe and the ingrow is on the right hand side. quite a few years ago i had the same problem same place but on the left side. and it was hell. and this time i donīt really want to go thur hell again but iīm running out what to do. my mom is a sweetheart she been keep a eye and a few days ago. she saw the small nail is a bit deep into the skin. (like she shai it in the carne!! lol) it doesnīt hurt when iīm walking or anything but when my mom just place her fingers in trying to get it i fell so much pain. there was some blood coming out but the nail still there. she told me wait a few days so the nail can try out. and just now she look at it and she didnīt do nothing besides look at it when feel put her hand on my toe alot of pain rushing. iīm really thinking to go to the doctor so he can get it out. iīm so scare like many years ago. numb my toe put the dame nail out and chouldnīt walk for 2 days. iīm thinking maybe see the doctor next week. or does anyone else know how to get this ingrow nail out? i donīt wanna spend a arm and a foot (get it??) to get the ingrow out? any ideas ?? beside going to the doctor? i know i have to go soon!!

Just remembered that there used to be a member on the forum that deal with foot problems. I don't know if she was a Chiropodist but she had lots of glowing recommendations. Perhaps other members could tell you who she was.

I used to get that prob, someone suggested cutting a little "V" in the middle of the nail, but it didn't always work.... but someone else suggested that you should never clip/cut your toe-nails, always just use a nail-file, and since then I haven't had a problem. Mind you, I don't hardly ever wear closed shoes nowadays either, so maybe it's just that LOL (I only wear trainers and flip-flops, and killer heals 2 or 3 times a month only)

Henry, it may be a little late in the Day for You, but here goes, (from experience)
Never ever cut Your Nails too short.
ALWAYS have some coming out at the end of Your Toe, otherwise the Nailwill grow and force its way through Your skin.
That is the cause of the trouble.
Usually, a small rolled piece of Cotton Wool under the edge of the Nail will lift it enough to let it grow without pain.
No doubt this Lady will know that too.

If you are registered with a GP go the the health centre and they will take care of it for free.
well today i was going to the doctor to make a appioment for nest week. but my mom said let me take a look. she took a look and she reply the nail is right there. and deep down into the skin. so she said let me have a crack on that. so i grab a pillow so i have something to bite down. for a good 10 mins she got most of it out but still have very little in there. i have to wait a few days so the nail can dry. bless her heart. she really got most of it out!! and quite a bit blood come out but she put some aqua oxidada on it. god it was so much pain!! i was sweating my hands was sweating my forehead etc. she joke while she works saying (now donīt pass out now lol) so far i only passout twice in my life. one getting a siet behind my neck (piece of fat behind my neck) and two i passout when my other dog was dieing back in 2005. but my foot feel better now still a little sore but the bleeding stop when she finish. she numb my toe in ice. wasnīt that bad until she really really got in... but we just have to see in a few days then she will work on it more. so good news is she got most of it out.

i will contact her next time when i need a good trim on my nails. hope she donīt charge a arm and a foot hahahaha. my mom have a friend who cuts nails and hair in san miguel she cuts my hair for 8 euros and cut my toe nails for 8 euros as well

not bad my toe is getting better today my mom clean it up and got quite a bit out. still have very little left. next time i tell the lady cut the cornders of the nail so i wonīt have to go thru hell like i did again!! my mom said is it allmost gone but wow now there a big hold there when the ingrew was. still have some nail in there but litlle by little it coming out!!! thank goddness we have mother right!!!
Henry, You must NOT cut the corners. The whole Nail must be past the Skin. Cutting the Corners CAUSES the trouble Mate.

my shoes are not tight at all my feet are size 13 in america. here in europe is 50 and a half. i know spain donīt have shoes 50 in a half so i buy them off ebay. same as my shirt size. in america is xl. but here i have to take xxl

It doesn't matter what shoe size you are Henry as long as they fit your feet correctly............and please heed Warbey's advice about how to cut your toe nails.
By the way, nails grow more quickly in a warm climate than a cold one...............strange but true.
hey everybody!! just a hour ago my mom finally got the ingrow out!! god!! talk about pain. for a sec i really thought i was going to pass out from the pain!! yes i did cry a bit from the pain!! she show it to me. and wow!! look like a small bug was in there. fianlly it out!!!! still quite a pain i just took some tylendol and itīs helping quite a bit. by tomorrow or so should be all well. right now there a bid hold there now!! and i allready soak my foot in warm salt water for 30min to help. but finally it is out after allmost a month fighting it. bless my mom heart in getting it out

When I was about 18 I got an in growning toe nail at the same time as a friend. He went straight to the doctor...who removed the whole nail! It didn't ever grow back!! So I went about mine with my fishing knive :)
There was a tight curl of rogue toe nail grown into the side of my big toe - like you it was a bit painful when I removed it.
I used an old plastic card (like a credit card) and everyday pushed along the top line of my toe nail to make sure it didn't grow back in side.
The nail grew back a bit wide! But as long as I didn't cut it back lower than the skin it was fine. Now looks like their was never a problem (unlike my friend who has no nail!)
You'll be fine... give your Mum a big kiss and make sure you keep the cut on your toe clean!
