Retailers will no longer dispatch laptop lithium-ion batteries by air, as air carriers refuse to carry them any more due to the risk of fire. I ordered one for a customer recently, they wouldn't send it directly here, so I got it sent to my sister-in-law, who sent it it plain packaging. It was returned to her with the packet opened and a stern warning should could be heavily fined for posting dangerous goods.

They can still be carried on aircraft by passengers provided they are attached to the device, but restrictions apply if carried on its own.
